Job Description
Position Summary Outpost Campers is a growing truck camper manufacturer producing premium, adventure-ready campers for customers who demand quality. As our Staff Accountant, you will own the financial backbone of our day-to-day operations — keeping our books accurate, our vendors paid, our cash flow visible, and our team paid on time. But this role is more than keeping the books: we want someone who treats financial data as a tool for growing the business, spots opportunities to reduce costs and improve efficiency, and brings ideas to the table. This is a high-trust, high-ownership role in a tight-knit small company where your work has a direct and visible impact on the bottom line. This role is an excellent opportunity for an experienced accountant who wants to grow with a company. As Outpost Campers scales, this position is structured to grow into a Controller role for the right candidate. Key Responsibilities Bookkeeping & General Ledger Record and code all daily financial transactions accurately across the general ledger Maintain clean, organized, and audit-ready books at all times Perform monthly account reconciliations and close the books on schedule Ensure all financial records comply with GAAP and internal policies Identify and correct coding errors or discrepancies proactively Accounts Payable Process and pay vendor invoices accurately and on time Perform three-way matching on all purchase orders, vendor invoices, and received goods — working closely with the Inventory & Materials Manager to verify ordered goods are received and documented Maintain organized vendor files and payment records Manage vendor relationships professionally and resolve billing discrepancies Monitor payment terms and optimize cash outflow timing Accounts Receivable Assist sales team in invoicing customers accurately and on schedule Track and follow up on outstanding receivables to ensure timely collection Apply and reconcile incoming payments against open invoices Maintain aging reports and escalate overdue accounts as needed Payroll Process full payroll for all employees on a bi-weekly or semi-monthly basis Ensure accurate tracking of hours, overtime, PTO, and deductions Remit payroll taxes and filings on time; maintain compliance with federal and state requirements Respond to employee payroll questions with accuracy and discretion Sales Tax & Compliance Prepare and file monthly Colorado sales tax returns accurately and on time Monitor nexus obligations and stay current on applicable tax rules for the RV/specialty vehicle industry Maintain documentation and records sufficient for tax audits Cash Flow & Reporting Prepare and maintain a rolling cash flow forecast to support operational and strategic decisions Provide the owner and operations manager with clear, timely financial reporting (P&L, balance sheet, cash position) Flag anomalies, trends, or concerns proactively — don’t wait to be asked Assist with budgeting and annual financial planning as the company grows Actively look for cost-saving opportunities across the organization — from vendor terms and payment timing to overhead and operational spend — and bring recommendations to leadership with data to back them up Inventory Collaboration Partner closely with the Inventory & Materials Manager to ensure all receiving activity is reflected accurately in the books Support inventory valuation, COGS tracking, and periodic physical inventory reconciliation Ensure purchase orders are properly authorized and matched before payment approval Qualifications Required 2+ years of full-cycle accounting experience, including AP, AR, payroll, and general ledger Proficiency with Odoo ERP (our platform) or similar accounting/ERP software; willingness to become the internal Odoo accounting expert Solid understanding of GAAP and fundamental accounting principles Experience preparing and filing sales tax returns High attention to detail — you catch errors before they become problems Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines independently Discretion and professionalism in handling confidential financial and payroll information Proficiency with Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets Preferred Experience in manufacturing, construction, or product-based businesses Familiar
