Job Description
Staff Accountant The Staff Accountant supports the financial operations of the organization by maintaining accurate accounting records, ensuring compliance with nonprofit regulations, and assisting with financial reporting. This role plays a key part in safeguarding organizational assets and supporting mission-driven programs through sound financial practices. Benefits Insurance: Health, Dental, Vision, Life, Short Term Disability 401K with 3% match Paid Time Off Continuing Education Stipend Qualifications: Requirements: Associate's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field 5+ years of accounting experience (nonprofit experience preferred) Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Applications Ability to pass a drug screening and State of Alaska background check Preferred: Experience in nonprofit and/or behavioral health environment Skills required: Knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles and fund accounting Proven ability to calculate, post and manage accounting figures and financial records Experience with QuickBooks Desktop accounting software Ability to meet deadlines and produce accurate work Punctuality and consistency in reporting to work Able to: Be a team player, demonstrate motivation and exercise discretion and dependability Stay current with payroll and pertinent regulations Maintain confidentiality and treat everyone with dignity and respect Job responsibilities: Manage accounting processes including, but not limited to: Process vendor invoices, expense reports and payments. Ensuring proper coding to programs, grants, and funding sources. New vendor documentation including TIN matching & debarment review Contracts & leases ensuring required documentation, insurance, and active agreements are in place Assist with payroll processing and related reconciliations Reconcile bank, credit card, and petty cash accounts monthly Track and review agency travel including arrangements with mileage program Maintain agency insurance, prepare renewals & certificates ensuring coverage adequacy Prepare and annual giving statements and annual 1099 Forms with timely filing Assist with annual budget preparation Prepare journal entries as needed for GL reporting and accuracy
