We are seeking a Staff Accountant Traditional Tax to join our Springfield, MO office. This role supports client engagements by preparing accurate and timely federal, state, and local tax returns for high-net-worth business owners across a variety of industries. The Staff Accountant will assist with tax planning, identify compliance issues, and ensure adherence to tax laws and firm standards. This individual will collaborate closely with Senior Accountants, Managers, and Partners to prepare and deliver returns, participate in client meetings, and contribute to exceptional client service and advisory support. Key Responsibilities Prepare individual, corporate, partnership, and trust tax returns in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations Assist with tax planning strategies for high-net-worth business owners and related entities Research tax issues and provide recommendations to leadership Review client documentation for accuracy, identify discrepancies, and propose corrections Prepare workpapers and schedules to support the review process Meet with clients to gather information, present findings, and deliver completed returns Maintain accurate client records and ensure compliance with firm policies Monitor filing deadlines and ensure timely submission of returns Respond to client inquiries in a professional and timely manner Collaborate across tax, audit, and accounting teams to support client needs Core Competencies Strong knowledge of tax laws and compliance standards Analytical mindset with attention to detail Effective client communication and relationship management Highly organized with a focus on accuracy and deadlines Problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and resolve discrepancies Team-oriented with the ability to collaborate across functions Maintains strict confidentiality of sensitive information Supervisory Responsibilities May oversee and support Interns Reports to Senior Accountants, Managers, or Partners Work Environment & Expectations Full-time, salaried exempt position Standard business hours with flexibility Occasional extended hours (40+ per week), especially during peak periods Location & Travel Springfield, MO (primarily office-based) Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting required; Master's and CPA eligibility preferred 13 years of tax preparation experience, ideally in public accounting Proficiency in Microsoft Office required Experience with UltraTax, QuickBooks (Desktop & Online), and AdvanceFlow preferred Ability to pass a CJIS background check Physical & Position Demands This position requires regular communication, close vision, and the ability to focus on detailed financial information.
