Salary $19.72 - $31.55 Hourly Location City of Safety Harbor, FL Job Type Part-Time Department Leisure Services Division Recreation Opening Date 02/02/2026 Closing Date 2/22/2026 11:59 PM Eastern FLSA Non-Exempt General Description and Hiring Rate The hiring rate for this position is $19.72/hr.Under the close supervision of a Recreation Manager, the Staff Assistant performs administrative work in accordance with City policies and procedures.Provides support to the Recreation Division with varied clerical work, in a wide variety of daily activities.Work is performed with some independent judgment.Work is reviewed through observation, conferences, and results obtained.HOURS REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION:MONDAY - FRIDAY, 10:30AM - 4:30 PM (UP TO 28 HOURS/WEEK) Essential Job Functions Researches, assembles, prepares, composes, types, copies, proofreads a wide range of materials including special reports, correspondence, memoranda, budgets, forms, and meeting minutes.Performs standardized procedures for a City Department to include filing, bookkeeping, and record keeping.Carries out general clerical duties while engaged in public interaction, giving information requiring knowledge of Departmental policies and procedures; issues Department related documents; collects monies and issues receipts.Provides excellent customer service relative to the specific area of assignment.Performs related tasks specific to the area of assignment.Inputs, accesses, and retrieves data to and from the City's computer system.Performs other duties as assigned.ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS - LEISURE SERVICES DEPARTMENT May open and secure facilities for programs/events/rentals; enforces rules and regulations of proper facility use; maintains orderliness of recreational areas.Issues equipment; collects fees and memberships; maintains attendance records; ensures the proper care and use of equipment.Responsible for contractual instructors in setting up and maintaining required equipment & records to include contractual instructor pay-outs.Prepares and coordinates satisfaction surveys and needs assessments related to Leisure Services Programs.Assists and trains on registration software and business practices; acts as liaison in troubleshooting issues regarding registration software.Evening and/or weekend work required.These essential job functions are not to be construed as a complete statement of all duties performed.Employees will be required to perform other job related marginal duties as required.Minimum Qualifications KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.Ability to follow oral and written instructions.Ability to carry out general office and clerical procedures.Skill in typing with reasonable speed and accuracy in accordance with the needs of a City Department.Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.Proficient in Microsoft Office products.Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.Ability to effectively communicate with elected officials, Department Directors, the general public, vendors, citizens, co-workers, employees, and retirees of the City.TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE Graduation from high school or equivalent (GED); supplemented by two years of clerical work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction).Acceptable hearing (with or without hearing aid).Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.Reaching.Use of fingers, use of hands.Sitting.Ability to access, input and retrieve information and data from a computer.Ability to access file cabinets for filing and retrieval of data.ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:Works inside in an office environment.The City of Safety Harbor is an Equal Opportunity Employer.In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, the employer will provide reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals with disabilities and encourages both prospective and current employees to discuss potential accommodations with the employer..
