Job Title: Steam Locomotive Crew Member Location: Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad, Fish Camp, California Job Type: Part-time / Seasonal About Us: The Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad offers a unique and unforgettable experience for visitors, providing historic steam locomotive rides through the beautiful Sierra National Forest. As one of the last remaining operating narrow gauge steam railroads in the United States, we are dedicated to preserving and showcasing the rich history of steam-powered railroading. Position Overview: We are seeking passionate, hardworking, and safety-conscious individuals to join our team on the Steam Locomotive Crew. As part of the crew, you will work alongside experienced engineers and conductors to operate and maintain our historic steam locomotives, providing an exceptional experience for guests while ensuring safe and efficient train operations. Key Responsibilities: Assist in the operation and driving of steam locomotives on scheduled passenger trains. Work closely with the locomotive engineer and conductor to ensure smooth, safe, and efficient train operations. Perform routine maintenance tasks on locomotives and equipment, including lubrication, cleaning, and basic repairs. Monitor steam pressure, water levels, and fuel supplies to ensure safe operation. Assist in maintaining the equipment, including inspecting cars and ensuring all safety systems are operational. Interact with guests to provide a friendly and informative experience. Maintain the cleanliness and upkeep of the shop, train, cars, and station area. Adhere to all safety protocols and regulatory requirements related to steam locomotive operation. Participate in training and professional development programs to improve knowledge of steam locomotives and railroad operations. Qualifications: A strong interest in history, steam locomotives, and railroading. Prior experience working with steam locomotives or in a similar railroad position is preferred. Ability to perform manual labor, including lifting, bending, and working in outdoor environments. Excellent teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills. Strong attention to detail and ability to follow safety procedures. Willingness to work in all weather conditions and on weekends and holidays. Preferred Skills: Engineer and/or fireman experience on a steam locomotive. Previous mechanical or maintenance experience. Knowledge of railroad rules and operations.
