Description STOCK CLERK REGULAR PART-TIME POSITION DEFINITION Under immediate supervision, orders, receives, maintains, tracks, issues, and delivers supplies and equipment to Public Works Department staff and other City personnel; maintains adequate stock levels and inventory records on all goods; checks orders received to ensure they match orders placed; researches best prices, obtains quotes, recycles batteries and light bulbs, organizes and cleans the warehouse; performs routine clerical duties; and performs related work as required.Examples of Duties SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED Receives immediate supervision from the Storekeeper.Exercises no direct supervision over staff.CLASS CHARACTERISTICS This is an entry-level classification where incumbents initially work under close supervision.Incumbents learn and perform routine duties in ordering, receiving, maintaining, tracking, issuing, and delivering supplies and equipment to Public Works Department staff and other City personnel.As experience is gained, assignments become more varied, complex, and difficult; close supervision and frequent review of work lessen as an incumbent demonstrates skills to perform the work independently.Positions at this level usually perform many of the duties required of the Storekeeper but are not expected to function at the same skill level and usually exercise less independent discretion and judgment in matters related to work procedures and methods.Work is usually supervised while in progress and fits an established structure or pattern.Exceptions or changes in procedures are explained in detail as they arise.EXAMPLES OF TYPICAL JOB FUNCTIONS (Illustrative Only) Essential functions may include, but are not limited to, the following:Orders, receives, maintains, tracks, issues, and delivers supplies and equipment to Public Works Department and other City staff.Stock supplies, materials, and pallets in an orderly fashion; ensures efficient utilization of available storage space; organizes and maintains cleanliness of warehouse.Operates appropriate equipment including forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks, dollies, and City vehicles to unload, pick-up, and deliver freight.Participates in all safety programs required to effectively perform associated job requirements.Checks receiving notices against purchase orders for possible discrepancies.Assists employees with researching and finding supplies and placing orders.Maintains adequate stock levels; maintains accurate inventory records on all goods maintained in and distributed from the warehouse; assists Storekeeper with scheduled inventory maintenance.Recycles batteries and light bulbs Researches best prices and obtains quotes Performs routine clerical tasks including answering phones, maintaining appropriate records and logs, and performing data entry tasks for tracking inventory.Maintains logs of surplus property and records transfers of property between departments; assists with efforts to sell surplus property.Prepares purchase orders; prepares related records and reports.Performs other related duties as assigned.Typical Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of:Storekeeping and warehousing methods and procedures including inventory tracking and control.Operation and maintenance of stockroom equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks.Administrative duties such as filing and processing purchase orders.Materials and parts utilized by streets, facilities, sewer, water, and parks department personnel including PVC, brass, and copper pipes and fixtures; in addition to supplies used City-wide such as paper.Record keeping methods and procedures.Basic math.Principles and practices of work safety; safety hazards and appropriate precautions applicable to work assignments.Techniques for providing a high level of customer service by effectively dealing with the public, vendors, contractors, and City staff.The structure and content of the English language, including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.Modern equipment and communication tools used for business functions and program, project, and task coordination, including computers and software programs relevant to work performed.Ability to:Know and understand the operations of the warehouse.Identify and locate necessary parts.Observe safety rules and traffic laws.Explain warehouse operations to other employees.Interpret work orders.Learn the types of supplies, materials, and equipment commonly used by a local government agency.Maintain records and stock levels.Update and maintain SDS information for materials purchased in the City's SDS software program.Obtain certifications as required by OSHA/CalOSHA and provided by the City, to perform assigned duties.Perform arithmetic calculations accurately and rapidly.Use tact, initiative, prudence, and independent judgment within general policy and procedural guidelines.Effectively use computer systems, software applications, and modern business equi
