APPLICATIONS RECEIVED ON OR BEFORE MAY 25th, AT 11:59 PM WILL BE GIVEN PRIORITY CONSIDERATION The City of Auburn's Public Works Department is seeking a Stormwater Compliance/Source Control Inspector . This position performs office and field work related to stormwater and water quality management in compliance with the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES permit) Phase II Municipal Stormwater Permit issued by the Washington State Department of Ecology. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, implementing the City’s Stormwater Source Control and Fats, Oils, and Grease (FOG) reduction programs, and investigating and inspecting public and private properties to ensure compliance with other federal, state, and local laws and regulations regarding surface water and wastewater treatment, disposal, and management. WHAT TO EXPECT: With the City’s Source Control Program entering its fourth year, many foundational processes are established, yet there is significant opportunity to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. The successful candidate will help shape the continued evolution of the program. They will also support implementation of initiatives outlined in the City’s Comprehensive Storm Drainage Plan and Comprehensive Sewer Plan—documents that guide long-term improvements, maintenance strategies, and regulatory compliance efforts for those utilities. They should demonstrate proficiency in conducting inspections, investigating illicit discharges, and ensuring regulatory compliance. Experience with GIS mapping, and asset tracking systems is highly valuable. Equally important are strong communication and collaboration skills , along with the ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and support the City’s stormwater and sewer programs with professionalism and sound judgment. Primary Duties In this role you will: Conduct source control inspections of public and private properties to reduce risks to public health, infrastructure, and the environment. Manage inspection activities to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including requirements of the City’s Phase II Municipal Stormwater Permit. Track grease trap and grease interceptor maintenance reports to support consistent upkeep and reduce fats, oils, and grease (FOG) entering the sewer system. Develop educational materials and outreach tools to promote best management practices related to source control and pollution prevention.
