Job Description
Job OverviewWe are seeking a passionate and dedicated Street Outreach Worker to conduct proactive, street-based engagement with runaway, homeless, and street-involved youth under the age of 21.Responsibilities Provide consistent outreach in locations where youth congregate, including parks, streets, transit hubs, encampments, schools, and community gathering spaces.Build rapport and trusting relationships with youth using nonjudgmental, youth-centered approaches.Distribute basic-needs items such as food, water, hygiene products, weather-appropriate clothing, safer-sex supplies, and resource information.Conduct immediate needs assessments to identify safety concerns, risks of exploitation or trafficking, mental health needs, and barriers to stability.Provide crisis intervention, de-escalation, and safety planning with youth experiencing emergencies or dangerous situations.Engage young people during non-traditional hours (evenings, nights, weekends) as required by program needs.Connect youth to emergency and transitional shelter, drop-in centers, medical and mental health services, substance use treatment, education, and employment resources.Support youth in accessing family engagement, mediation, or reunification services when safe and appropriate.Build relationships and collaborate with schools, law enforcement, child welfare, Continuum of Care partners, health systems, and community organizations.Complete forms, assessments, and case notes in accordance program regulations.Enter data accurately and on time into the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) or other required databases.Participate fully in monitoring, evaluation, and continuous quality improvement efforts.Advocate for the rights, safety, and needs of youth experiencing homelessness.Minimum Requirements:High school diploma or equivalent Experience working with adolescents, young adults, or vulnerable populations Ability to work non-traditional hours, including evenings, and weekends.Valid driver's license Ability to carry outreach supplies and work outdoors in varying weather conditions Preferred Qualifications:Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, Public Health or related field Expereience with street outrreach, crisis intervention, or homeless services Familiarity with RHY programs, harm reduction, and trauma-informed approaches Bilingual or multilingual abilities Lived experience relevant to the population served Working Conditions:Field-based with frequent travel to community locations Exposure to weather, nighttime environments, and emotionally intense situations Regular lifting or carrying of outreach backpacks or supply bins Use of agency vehicle or personal vehicle depending on program structure Pay:$18.50 - $19.00 per hour Expected hours:40.0 per week Benefits:401(k) 401(k) matching Employee assistance program Health insurance Life insurance Paid time off Application Question(s):Experience working with adolescents, young adults, or vulnerable populations.Ability to carry outreach supplies and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.Ability to work non-traditional hours, including evenings and weekends.Education:High school or equivalent (Required) License/Certification:Driver's License and Reliable Transportation (Required) Work Location:In person.
