Job Description
The mission of the Department of Managed Health Care (DMHC) is to ensure health plan members have access to equitable, high-quality, timely, and affordable health care within a stable health care delivery system.Please visit us at the Department of Managed Health Care The Department of Managed Health Care (DMHC) is seeking to hire one student assistant.Under the close supervision of the Staff Services Manager II and in a learning capacity, the Student Assistant will perform a variety of supportive functions within the Help Center's Initial Review Section - Initial Review Unit (IRS - IRU).The Help Center assists consumers with health care issues and through its regulatory authority ensures that managed health care patients receive the medical care and services to which they are entitled.Conditions of Employment This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited, student position.Employment in all positions with University Enterprises, Inc.is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc.and the employee.This means that either University Enterprises, Inc.or the employee can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will, with or without cause.The candidate selected by the DMHC will be subject to a pre-employment background investigation.The investigation will consist of fingerprinting and an inquiry to the California Department of Justice to disclose criminal records.UEI does not allow students to hold more than one UEI Job at a time, or work in more than one account per pay period.UEI employees who are considering leaving their current UEI Student assistant position for a different UEI student assistant position should inform their supervisor in writing and provide at least a week's notice.UEI is not a multi-state employer.UEI only employs candidates who live and work in the state of California.If selected for the position you must reside in California and all work must be performed in the state of California throughout the course of employment.Prerequisites Must be a college student attending classes during the regular term (Fall, Spring and Winter, if applicable), at one of the accredited colleges or universities on our affiliation list.To view our current affiliation list please paste the following URL into your browser:http://www.calinterns.org/wp-content/uploads/Affiliation_List.pdf Students must be enrolled in at least:six-semester units or nine quarter units for undergraduate students; four-semester units or six quarter units for graduate students.Students declared major must match the major(s) listed in the job posting.Majors/Fields of Study Preferred Major in Health Care, Humanities, Social Science, or Information Technology.Work Schedule F lexible workdays and work hours, Monday - Friday, between 8 AM - 5 PM.The final work schedule will be determined by the supervisor.Additional Work Schedule Student Assistant and Graduate Assistant employees generally work up to 24 hours per workweek (Sunday - Saturday) during the academic year and up to 40 hours per workweek during breaks; (winter, spring, and summer).Compensation $18.27 - $24.62 per hour Minimum Qualifications Ability to work in a team environment and provide excellent customer service.Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff.Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.Preferred Qualifications Knowledge and proficiency in the use of personal computers and standard office software (i.e.Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams.Provide excellent oral and written communications.Good organizational skills to ensure timely and accurate completion of tasks.Ability to work in a fast-paced and customer service-oriented program environment, and to organize/prioritize workload to meet demands.Individuals who are, or have been, a dependent child in foster care, a homeless youth or a formerly incarcerated youth as defined by Government Code section 18220 are encouraged to apply and will be given priority.Please note that prior to appointment, individuals claiming preference under one of these categories will be required to furnish documentation establishing their eligibility.Duties and Responsibilities Send Request for Health Plan Information (RHPI) request to consumer's health plan in accordance with the Knox-Keene Health Care Service Plan Act of 1975 (KKA), Title 28 of the California Code of Regulations (CCR).Receive health plan responses.Monitor and respond to electronic mail communications.Ensure private health information is processed proficiently.Create, organize, and categorize new consumer complaint.Track trends and provide data to management which assists with new process or procedures, enhance teamwork and professional development by participating in Help Center training sessions, team meetings, and one-on-one discussions.Gain exposure to Help Center processes and system integration strategies while contributing to operational efficiency.Physical Requirements Sit for extended periods; frequently stand a
