Job Description As a Maker Wrangler, you will be a full-fledged member of the DeLaMare Science & Engineering Library team. You will learn to operate the equipment in the makerspace including the laser cutter, 3D printers, vinyl cutter, vacuum former, sewing machines, and machining tools. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a creative approach to problem solving and develop the skills and interpersonal connections needed to support our academic library community. They will provide the highest level of customer service and promote a safe environment. Responsibilities Day-to-day operations of the makerspace Provide initial hands-on training to all new users of makerspace resources and assist patrons in utilizing all pieces of equipment. Conduct one-on-one consultations with users on topics such as 3D modeling, 3D scanning, and project design implementation for students, faculty, staff, and community members. Develop and provide workshops on a variety of makerspace-related topics. Uphold established safety guidelines within the makerspace. Utilize creativity and problem-solving skills to complete specialty projects. Required Qualifications Applicants must be a current student at the University of Nevada, Reno. This position is open to students of all majors. Proficient in working with computers and software programs, such as Microsoft Word and Excel. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Preferred Qualifications Any or all of the following skills: Experience working with 3D printers, laser cutters, hand tools, and other types of equipment commonly found in makerspaces. Previous customer service experience. A deep-seated sense of curiosity about the world and the way things work. Willingness to learn new processes, software, and equipment quickly and accurately. Willingness to follow detailed instructions and procedures Knowledge of the following or similar software packages: 3D modeling: SolidWorks, AutoCAD, OnShape, Fusion 360 Slicing software: Cura, Preform Adobe Creative software: Photoshop, Illustrator PCB design software: EAGLE CNC toolpath software: Vcarve Embroidery software: Artist Digitizer Schedule The expected hours for students to work per week: 10-20 hours During the libraries normal business hours: · Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM · Sunday, 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM *Weekend and evening hours are expected. Training will take place on the weeks of July 6th - July 10th and July 13th – July 17th, Monday to Friday from 9:00am-4:00pm. Successful candidates must be available to attend the two-week training session.
