Position Type: Substitute/Substitute Teacher Date Posted 7/17/2019 Location Substitute Department Position Title: Substitute Teacher Position Category: Substitute Licensed Staff Position Status: Substitute / As Needed Location: Fremont RE-2 School District Schools Reports To: Building Principal Position Summary The Substitute Teacher provides instructional support in the absence of the regularly assigned classroom teacher. The substitute teacher is responsible for maintaining the learning environment, implementing lesson plans when provided, managing classroom behavior, and ensuring student safety while supporting the educational program of the Fremont RE-2 School District. Substitute teachers are expected to follow district policies, procedures, and building expectations while maintaining continuity of instruction for students. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Implement lesson plans and instructional activities provided by the classroom teacher when available. Supervise and manage classroom activities to maintain a safe and productive learning environment. Provide instruction and support to students in accordance with established classroom procedures. Monitor student behavior and enforce school and classroom rules. Assess and evaluate student work as directed by the classroom teacher. Maintain accurate records and notes for the returning teacher regarding student progress and classroom activities. Collaborate and communicate effectively with teaching colleagues, school staff, and administration. Follow district safety procedures and emergency protocols. Maintain confidentiality of student and personnel information in accordance with FERPA, district policy, and applicable laws. Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal or administration. Qualifications Required Qualifications Valid Colorado Teaching License or a 1-Year, 3-Year, or 5-Year Colorado Substitute Authorization. Experience working with students preferred. Strong classroom management and student supervision skills. Excellent communication skills in both oral and written language. Ability to work effectively as part of a team. Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality in a school setting. Required Background Checks Employment is contingent upon successful completion of all required background checks including: Criminal background screening and fingerprinting Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) background check Any additional screenings required by district policy Physical Requirements The physical demands described here are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position: Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the classroom and school environment. Ability to supervise students in classrooms, hallways, playgrounds, and other school settings. Ability to actively monitor and respond to student needs throughout the school day. Terms of Employment Substitute positions are temporary, on-call, and as-needed. Assignments are determined by district substitute needs and availability and do not guarantee regular hours, ongoing assignments, or continued employment. Salary/Benefits Compensation will be in accordance with the Fremont RE-2 Substitute Salary Schedule. Substitute employees are not eligible for district benefits.
