A global higher education leader in innovative teaching, research and public service, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill consistently ranks as one of the nation's top public universities.Known for its beautiful campus, world-class medical care, commitment to the arts and top athletic programs, Carolina is an ideal place to teach, work and learn.One of the best college towns and best places to live in the United States, Chapel Hill has diverse social, cultural, recreation and professional opportunities that span the campus and community.University employees can choose from a wide range of professional training opportunities for career growth, skill development and lifelong learning and enjoy exclusive perks that include numerous retail and restaurant discounts, savings on local child care centers and special rates for performing arts events.Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit Building Services provide full maintenance and repair services for all UNC facilities and ensure the proper operation of those facilities in support of the UNC mission of teaching, research and public service.Building Services supports more than 300 campus buildings with more than 18 million gross square feet of space.The teams that provide quality maintenance, repair and construction services that support the teaching, research, and public service mission of the University include Campus Maintenance, EMCS, Facilities Operations Support, Housing Support, HVAC Systems, Life Safety Services, and the Office of Waste Reduction and Recycling.Housing Support is an effective team of employees providing maintenance and repair services, including a safe and secure environment for the 9000 students living in 37 residence halls and 700 apartments.Trade skills include cabinetmaking, plumbing, carpentry, electrical, electronics, sheet metal, roofing, painting and HVAC.We identify, estimate, plan and complete minor facility renovation projects via our own Housing Support internal shops, Facilities Services Construction Shops, and/or private contractors.We provide year-round, 24-hour customer service to our resident students and Housing staff.Housing Support also conducts all scheduled facility maintenance inspections within its facilities.This unit is the primary point of contact for the residence halls and dispatches the request to the appropriate shop.Position Summary THIS CONTINUOUS POSTING IS RECRUITING FOR SUMMER PAINTERS ONLY.The Building Services Housing Support Paint Shop is currently recruiting for Summer Painters.This temporary position will last from mid-May through the beginning of August.Work schedule is Monday-Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm (must be available to work entire shift).This position is responsible for the painting and trim work of residence halls and student apartments on campus during the summer.Minimum Education and Experience Requirements High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.Management Preferences Ability to receive clear instructions and communicate effectively with supervisors and team members.Ability to quickly learn new tools, processes, or adapt to changing tasks, as summer roles can be unpredictable.Safety conscious and have an understanding of safety standards.Have a strong work ethic with dependable attendance.Ability to demonstrate great teamwork with co-workers and Housing staff..Special Physical/Mental Requirements Must be able to climb and work from a ladder.Must be able to move objects weighing up to 50lbs with or without accommodation.Employees are required to adhere to safety requirements by wearing the appropriate personal protective equipment.Work may require strenuous physical exertion.Campus Security Authority Responsibilities Not Applicable..
