Cal Poly Pomona Foundation Employment Services ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION VACANCY SUMMARY: Currently searching for a motivated Resident Counselor to work in the Upward Bound Program SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU WILL GET TO DO (this is just a small sampling of work variety): The successful incumbent will supervise a minimum of 10 Upward Bound summer participants (i.e., during classroom instruction, recreational activities, workshops, etc.) for the duration of the UB six-week summer residential program. The incumbent will also tutor students in core curriculum courses which include: English, math, science, foreign language, etc. Incumbents are also responsible for developing residential life activities for program participants. Additionally, if resident counselors need to reside in the Cal Poly Pomona campus for the duration of the six-week UB summer residential program, housing will be available from June 15 to July 24 ( housing is not will be offered on holidays or weekends ). MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Currently enrolled undergraduate college student (not limited to Cal Poly Pomona students) Good academic standing Experience working with high school students in an educational or residential setting Experience tutoring in various high school subjects Experience supervising adolescents PREFERRED Upper-division standing Conflict resolution/management skills Knowledge of or background with TRIO programs or other educational equity programs Education or training in child/adolescent development, peer counseling/mentoring, or crisis intervention WE OFFER : A summer teacher assistant/residential counselor temporary assignment One week of mandatory training, June 8 – 12, six weeks in residence; excluding holidays and weekends (June 15 – July 24, 2026) paid bi-weekly for seven weeks, salary $16.90/hour, plus room and board Training will include First Aid and CPR certification and Cal Poly Pomona UB policies on harassment, mandated reporting, and the regulations of working with minors – maximum 40 hours for the week of training (June 8 – 12) The resident counselor will be on-call five days a week (Monday through Friday), up to 54 hours for the duration of the six-week summer residential program (June 15 – July 24); no overtime BACK GROUND CHECK: Resident counselors are required to undergo a background check through the Cal Poly Pomona Police Department. Background checks are done through the Live Scan system to identify misdemeanors, felonies, predatory behavior, FBI records checks and Department of Justice cross reference.
