Job Summary Position is June 1st- August 10th The mission of Victory Junction is to enrich the lives of children with chronic medical conditions or serious illnesses by providing life-changing camping experiences that are exciting, fun, and empowering, in a safe and medically sound environment.The Unit Nurse of Victory Junction provides the means of fulfilling the mission statement, with the goal of maintaining a medical center of excellence for each of the conditions and illnesses we serve.This is accomplished by a dedicated nurse that provides superior medical services to campers, families, and staff when at Victory Junction.Responsibilities:Following is a summary of the essential functions for this job.Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below.Specific activities may change from time to time.Coordinates and collaborates with subspecialty physicians, nurses and ancillary health care members in disease-related medication administration, care, therapies, and other regular treatment routines to facilitate a positive, healthy camp experience for camper and staff.Initiates provision of nursing care and follow through for acute disease exacerbation, routine illness, or injuries.Prepares and administers routine scheduled medications to campers and staff including PO, IM, SQ, IV, and nebulized medications.Administers medications, on an as-needed basis, in accordance with Victory Junction standing orders/treatment guidelines, or as ordered by a physician, nurse practitioner, or physician assistant.Documents all care provided with attention given to clinical presentation, assessment/findings, treatment, and follow-up.Assists in reviewing individual health status of campers and staff before and during camp to optimize and maintain baseline health status.Serves as a resource to camp staff to ensure that all campers and staff are provided with a safe experience consistent with each camper's medical condition and individual needs.Assists in education of camp staff to promote safety and minimize injury or illness for all in camp environment.Participates in education of camp personnel concerning camper's diagnosis, disease specific care, and treatment.Communicates as necessary with the camper's physician (or designee) to inform, clarify or modify individual treatment plan during camp session.Participates in administration of camp health policies, daily shift rotation coverage in the camp medical facility, shared medical coverage at high-risk activity areas, and primary night call with physician backup.Participates in camp activities, when possible, to optimize and facilitate camp life experience in a fun, medically sound and safe environment for all camp population.Acts as a resource/preceptor to volunteer healthcare staff throughout each session.Assists in review of medical supply inventory throughout summer sessions, stocking first aid kits at program areas, identifying additional needs.Accompanies acutely ill children on hospital transport as needed.Experience Current, unrestricted North Carolina license Current PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support), and Healthcare Provider BLS (Basic Life Support) certifications Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred Experience working with the pediatric and adolescent populations Desire to work in a camp community Ability to work with a variety of health care professionals Prior camp experience preferred Work Location:In person.
