Job Description
Lutheran Social Services of WI & Upper MI is seeking a compassionate and energetic Summer Youth Counselor to support children and teens in our Community & Social Services programs. In this seasonal role, you will help create a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment where youth can learn, grow, and build positive relationships. You will plan and lead daily recreational, educational, and life-skills activities; supervise youth during on-site and off-site programming; and serve as a positive role model who promotes respect, teamwork, and healthy choices. Working closely with other counselors and supervisors, you will monitor youth behavior, use de-escalation and conflict-resolution techniques when needed, and ensure that all program guidelines and safety protocols are followed. You will communicate regularly with program staff and, when appropriate, parents or guardians about youth participation, progress, and concerns. Responsibilities also include setting up and cleaning activity spaces; completing basic documentation such as attendance and incident reports; and supporting inclusive programming for youth of diverse cultural backgrounds and abilities. This position is ideal for candidates pursuing or holding a high school diploma or higher who are interested in youth development, social services, education, or related fields and want to make a direct, positive impact during the summer months. Successful counselors will demonstrate strong communication skills, patience, reliability, and a genuine commitment to the LSS mission of promoting health, healing, and hope in the community, while upholding an environment of compassion and respect for all participants.
