Job Description
The basic function of the Field Superintendent is to act as a coordinator for all jobs in the field, to assign personnel, coordinate with purchasing, sub-contractors and the customer the timely, profitable and quality completion of all jobs undertaken and effective coordination with other specialties within the company. 2.1 Ensure that all work is scheduled to the maximum benefit of the company and to prevent delays in completion. The scheduling of men, materials and equipment is included. With a proper mix of mechanics, apprentices, helpers and laborers. 2.2 Ensure that each mechanic, apprentice, helper or laborer is profitable on the work assigned with a thorough understanding of the time they have to accomplish the job, the preferred method for carrying out the work. 2.3 Ensure that the equipment is maintained in such a manner as to maximize the economic life of that equipment and maximum efficiency of the company. 2.4 Ensure that all work performed and equipment or materials used of whatever nature or for whatever purpose is accounted for and billed. Specific duties include Hours of work will be a minimum of (40) hours per week and may require working weekends if necessary to maintain job schedule(rare) Schedule all hours to be worked on the job by our crews and sub-contractors. Schedule all work to be performed on the job to which the Field Superintendent is assigned. Enforce adherence to, compliance with, all plans, schedules, directions and policies. Enforce all safety rules and regulations. Expedite all equipment and materials to be used on the project either through the Purchasing Manager or where appropriate directly with the supplier, to ensure that needed materials are on hand to ensure meeting customers reasonable expectations and high labor efficiency. Provide all technical assistance to field personnel as well as hands on assistance when required to assure satisfactory completion of jobs in a time effective manner. Review all receivers, purchase orders, time sheets and sub-contract documents at submission to make sure that all materials and labor expended are accounted for and reported to the office for job costing and billing. In addition, confirm the pricing, quantities and quality of merchandise received, as well as the hours worked or piece count of work accomplished by the sub-contractors. Establish and communicate to all field personnel the amount of time allowed for each phase of work they are performing. Maintain a full schedule of work for each field person on his/her job unless that function is being covered by a Specialty Foreman, having each one scheduled at least a day ahead of their current job. Maintain contact with customers and provide technical assistance to them as required and ensure that the customer will be satisfied with the work performed on his/her project. Advise the Project Manager of problems with under-budgeted jobs or inability to meet scheduled completion dated so that additional resources or alternative resources can be used to meet deadlines and customers' expectations. Also, so that changes can be negotiated or amended for new completion dates.
