We encourage you to step beyond your comfort zone, offering resources and flexibility to foster your professional and personal growth, all while valuing your unique contributions. Join our Molecular Imaging business as a Surface Mount Technology (SMT) Engineer, where you will develop, optimize, and validate SMT manufacturing processes used in the production of PET detector modules. Your work will directly support the performance and reliability of Siemens Healthineers’ state-of-the-art PET and PET/CT imaging systems, enabling clinicians worldwide to deliver earlier diagnoses and more personalized care. Role Overview This is a hands-on, individual contributor role for an SMT process engineer who thrives on the manufacturing floor—programming equipment, dialing in processes, troubleshooting real defects, and continuously improving how boards are built. You will work closely with technicians, manufacturing, and R&D teams to develop, optimize, and sustain SMT assembly processes for high-reliability PET detector electronics in a regulated medical device environment. You Are Responsible For Programming, setting up, and optimizing SMT equipment, including solder paste printers, pick-and-place machines, reflow ovens, and inspection systems (AOI, X-ray). Implementing and optimizing low-void solder paste processes, including stencil design and screen print parameter development. Owning the development and optimization of thermal reflow profiles, including modifying recipes based on process data and X-ray/defect feedback. Implementing nitrogen-assisted reflow strategies to improve solder wetting and reduce oxidation. Managing MSL component handling and controlled dry storage protocols to ensure component integrity. Defining inspection criteria and analyzing X-ray and process data to identify trends, root causes, and continuous improvement opportunities. Leading preventive maintenance and calibration programs to ensure equipment reliability and repeatability. Collaborating cross-functionally with R&D, Quality, and Manufacturing Engineering to support design transfer, process validation, and new product introduction (NPI). Ensuring compliance with ISO, IPC, and FDA regulatory standards. Partnering with vendors and internal teams to drive process innovation, automation, and technology advancement. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering (or equivalent experience) 5+ years of hands-on SMT process engineering experience in a high-volume, regulated manufacturing environment (medical device, aerospace, or automotive preferred) Demonstrated experience programming and optimizing SMT equipment and processes across printing, placement, and reflow Strong working knowledge of ISO 13485, FDA 21 CFR 820, IPC-A-610, J-STD, and related standards Familiarity with documentation practices and change control systems within a regulated manufacturing environment Proficiency in Microsoft Office and technical documentation tools Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with a collaborative mindset Who we are : We are a team of more than 72,000 highly dedicated Healthineers in more than 70 countries.
