Job Description
Manchester Memorial Hospital, part of Eastern Connecticut Health Network (ECHN), is seeking a dedicated Surgical Technologist to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team. In this hands-on operating room role, you will work side by side with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and perioperative nurses to deliver safe, high‑quality surgical care to our community. The Surgical Technologist is responsible for preparing the operating room, assembling, organizing, and maintaining surgical instruments and equipment, and ensuring all necessary supplies are available and sterile prior to procedures. You will scrub in on a variety of cases, including general, orthopedic, obstetric/gynecologic, and other specialty surgeries, maintaining strict aseptic and sterile technique throughout the procedure. During surgery you will anticipate the surgeon’s needs, pass instruments and supplies accurately and efficiently, manage sponges, sharps, and instrument counts, and help maintain a safe, organized operative field. This position requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to remain calm and focused in a fast‑paced environment. The Surgical Technologist assists with patient positioning, skin preparation, draping, and application of dressings, and collaborates with the circulating nurse to verify patient identity, procedure, and site in accordance with safety and regulatory standards. You will help operate and troubleshoot basic OR equipment, prepare specimens for laboratory analysis, and participate in room turnover between cases by cleaning, restocking, and setting up for subsequent procedures. As part of ECHN’s culture of compassionate, community‑focused care, you will communicate respectfully with patients and families, provide reassurance and privacy, and support positive patient outcomes through adherence to evidence‑based practices. Candidates should be graduates of an accredited Surgical Technology program, with hospital OR experience or equivalent clinical rotations strongly preferred. Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) and current BLS are highly desirable. Success in this role requires reliability, excellent manual dexterity, strong knowledge of anatomy, surgical procedures, instrumentation, and sterile processing, as well as the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. At Manchester Memorial Hospital you will find opportunities for professional growth, ongoing education in new surgical techniques and technologies, and the chance to make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients in a supportive, community‑oriented environment. Full‑time schedules may include day, evening, night, weekend, and on‑call rotations, with flexibility to meet patient care needs while maintaining work‑life balance.
