Survey Party Chief M/F

The Survey Party Chief is the leader of a two-man crew (field surveyor and rodman) that jointly performs field layouts and as-built surveys for construction purposes. Principal/Essential Duties & Responsibilities · Establishes and monitors construction layout for both temporary and permanent work elements. · Maintains and replaces the survey control network within the accuracy as per VDOT’s survey manual. · Utilizes survey equipment, software, and survey systems in performing and managing project surveying for the construction of the project. · Responsible for keeping and maintaining the surveying equipment assigned to the crew, including regular verifications. Performs as-built surveys for the different disciplines. Required Qualifications · High school diploma or equivalent (associate degree or technical certificate in surveying or related field preferred). · Basic understanding of surveying techniques, instruments, and terminology. · Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and terrain types. · Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data collection and documentation. · Excellent communication and teamwork skills. A willingness to learn and develop technical skills under the guidance of senior surveyors. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities · Ability to communicate with a vast range of support entities including Engineers, Superintendents, and Architects · Possess strong problem-solving abilities to address and solve survey challenges associated with construction operations. · Ability to learn quickly how to use and operate new survey equipment. · Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications and translate into survey data for layout in the field. · Good attention to detail with the ability to recognize discrepancies. · Ability to learn how to use with Civil 3D and Trimble Business Center (demonstrable experience with the software is a plus). Ability to learn Microsoft Word and Excel.
