NATURE OF WORK: The City of Westerville is a nationally recognized and accredited community in parks, recreation and public services. As one of the largest suburban communities in Central Ohio, Westerville is committed to sustainable programs, responsible land use and events and community opportunities to promote resource conservation. Westerville City Council has adopted environmental sustainability as one of three lenses through which all services and programs operate.Under the direction of the Parks and Facilities Administrator, the Sustainability Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing and overseeing comprehensive community-wide sustainability programs. Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders on all sustainability-related functions of the City; creates, implements, and evaluates internal and external programs, operations, and educational opportunities. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES This position reports to the Parks and Facilities Administrator. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: An example of acceptable qualifications: Possession of a bachelor’s degree preferred.Two (2)-five (5) years of experience in sustainability or other related experience.Must possess and maintain a valid State of Ohio driver’s license and must remain insurable under the City’s vehicle insurance policy.Any combination of education, training, and/or experience equivalent to the minimum qualifications stated above.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: ( Indicates developed after employment)KNOWLEDGE OF: city goals and objectives ; city policies and procedures*; project management; word processing; spreadsheet and presentation software; web design; social media platforms and/or graphic design.SKILL IN: use of modern office equipment and software; critical thinking, judgment, and decision making; excellent written and verbal communication.ABILITY TO: demonstrate professionalism; apply management principles to solve agency problems*; serve as a role model; demonstrate sound judgment; resolve problems and conflicts equitably and maintain a forward- moving team environment; composure and professionalism under pressure; complete work accurately and effectively in a timely manner; develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders; define problems, collect, and evaluate data; establish facts and draw valid conclusions; work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends, as needed; maintain confidentiality and use appropriate judgment in handling information and records; convey sustainability topics/issues to the public in an easy to understand manner.
