Position Overview The Swim Coach at The Virginian Golf Club is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing a high-quality swimming program for members of all ages and skill levels. This role focuses on skill development, fitness, safety, and fostering a positive and motivating environment for swimmers. The Swim Coach ensures that all instruction and training align with club standards and promote a safe, engaging, and enjoyable aquatic experience. Key Responsibilities Develop, plan, and implement structured training programs and practice schedules for swimmers of all ages and skill levels. Provide group and individual instruction focused on stroke development, technique improvement, and overall fitness. Evaluate swimmer performance, track progress, and adjust training plans to support continuous improvement. Maintain constant supervision during all swim activities, ensuring a safe environment and enforcing all pool and club safety regulations. Organize and coordinate swim meets, special events, and interclub competitions in collaboration with staff and management. Maintain accurate records of attendance, performance metrics, and certifications as required. Inspect pool facilities and equipment regularly to ensure proper operation, cleanliness, and safety compliance. Communicate clearly and professionally with swimmers, parents, and management regarding schedules, expectations, and performance updates. Lead and mentor Swim Assistants and other support staff to promote teamwork and consistent coaching standards. Stay current on aquatic coaching methods, safety protocols, and club policies through ongoing training and certification. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Membership Manager or management team. Qualifications Required: Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience as a swim coach in a club or competitive setting. Certifications: Current CPR, First Aid, and Lifeguard certifications. Preferred: Certification from a recognized swimming organization (e.g., USA Swimming, ASCA). Experience managing youth swim programs or competitive teams. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) Extensive knowledge of swimming techniques, training methods, and conditioning principles. Strong leadership and motivational skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. Ability to maintain focus, composure, and safety awareness in a fast-paced aquatic environment. Organizational skills to plan practices, meets, and special events effectively. Commitment to providing a positive, encouraging, and inclusive coaching environment. Work Environment / Physical Requirements Aquatic facility environment with regular exposure to water, humidity, and chemicals. Requires standing, walking, and active movement for extended periods. Must be able to lift and move up to 50 lbs (e.g., lane lines, equipment). Ability to demonstrate swimming techniques and enter the water as needed. Work schedule includes evenings, weekends, and holidays during swim season.
