This is a hands-on, outdoor role responsible for operating tamping equipment to maintain track geometry and ensure safe, efficient rail operations. Learn more at Job Descriptio In this role, you will operate rail-mounted tamping machines to align and stabilize track, working closely with maintenance-of-way crews to ensure track conditions meet safety and operational standards.If you have experience with rail equipment and enjoy working in a fast-paced, field-based environment, this role may be a great fit. Schedule: Full-time; schedule varies based on maintenance windows, travel, and project needs (including nights and weekends as required) Compensation: Starting at $30.00 per hour (based on experience) Duties Operate rail-mounted tamping machines to align, level, and compact ballast* Follow track maintenance schedules and supervisor direction* Adjust and calibrate tamping equipment for specific rail conditions* Read and interpret track diagrams, work orders, and machine settings* Conduct pre-operation inspections to ensure equipment safety and functionality* Perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting on tamping equipment* Collaborate with maintenance-of-way crews including track inspectors and welders* Report track defects, unsafe conditions, and equipment issues* Maintain accurate daily logs and production records Job Requirements High school diploma or GED preferred* 1–2 years of experience in railroad maintenance or rail equipment operation* Strong understanding of track geometry and alignment principles* Mechanical aptitude and ability to perform minor equipment repairs* Knowledge of railway safety standards and protocols (FRA, AREMA preferred) Ability to work independently and as part of a team Strong communication and problem-solving skills* Ability to travel and work in remote locations as required* Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions* Ability to lift, carry, and handle materials (up to ~50 lbs) Ability to climb on and off rail equipment safely Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred* Equipment certification required when applicable What We Offer (Benefits) Railserve is committed to being an Employer of Choice, offering competitive pay and a comprehensive benefits package: Medical, Dental, and Vision coverage Company-paid employee and dependent life insurance* Company-paid sickness and accident income* 401(k) with company match* Annual safety shoe reimbursement* Prescription safety wear* Holiday pay* Vacation* Marmon employee discount program Grow With Us Don’t worry if you don’t meet every qualification.
