Job Title Teacher, Beginning Orchestra Location Elementary Schools Reports To Principal Work days/FTE 183 days/0.1 FTE Salary/Benefits Salary and benefits per contract with the Education Association of Natick; Unit A Salary Benefits Eligible? No JOB GOAL Natick Public Schools is seeking a skilled and enthusiastic String Orchestra Teacher/Director to lead our 4th grade orchestra program on a part-time basis (0.1 FTE). The position involves directing a daily 45-minute rehearsal, four days per week. The ideal candidate will inspire young musicians, develop ensemble skills, and contribute to a growing and vibrant music program. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, Performance, or related field; Master’s preferred. Valid Massachusetts teaching license in Music (PreK–12) or eligibility to obtain one. Proficiency in violin, viola, cello, and ensemble direction. Experience teaching and inspiring student musicians. Strong communication and organizational skills. Strong interpersonal skills Preferred Qualifications: Experience with diverse repertoire and culturally responsive teaching. Ability to collaborate with colleagues and contribute to school culture. Background in arranging or adapting music for student ensembles. Key Responsibilities: Lead daily 40-minute string orchestra rehearsals (four days per week). Select appropriate and engaging repertoire with the director of music and the middle school string dierctor that matches students’ skill levels. Prepare students for 2 performances throughout the school year. Provide instruction on technique, ensemble playing, and musical expression. Collaborate with school music staff, especially string staff and the Director of Music to align curriculum, measure excellence, and spiral curriculum. Maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment. Communicate with families regarding student progress and concert schedules. Work Schedule: With the right schedule, there is an opportunity to also teach beginner string lessons at our instructor rate outside of these hours. Compensation: Salary is commensurate with experience and in accordance with the district’s part-time educator scale.
