Job Overview The responsibility of the Teacher-Mentor is to implement Elevate Savannah programs at our partner schools. The Teacher-Mentor will work with students from elementary through high school. The primary objective of the Teacher/Mentor is to build long-term, life-changing relationships with students while preparing them for high school graduation with a postsecondary plan for their future. Responsibilities Teaching — Teaches and manages classroom professionally in accordance with ELEVATE Savannah standards and training. Administration — Keeps records of program implementation as required. Ensure that the administration is accurate, consistent, and timely. Attendance — Present, attentive, and participates in meetings, classes, and other related activities. Bonding — Establish and build mentoring relationships with students to produce positive life-change in urban youth. Modeling — Serves as a positive role model and leader for ELEVATE Savannah students. Demonstrate outstanding ethics, character qualities, and behavior. Presence — Represents ELEVATE Savannah in a professional manner in classroom, site visits, partnership presentations, and community functions. Flexibility — Fulfills other responsibilities as assigned with respectful, team attitude Essential Job Requirements Education — Four-year college education or two-year post-secondary degree and teaching experience preferred. Experience — Minimum of two years experience in youth service; certifications or education in youth services preferred Commitment — Willingness to provide 24/7/365 availability to support student relationships for year-round position (including summer programs); NOTE: This is a 12-month position Driver’s License — Valid Georgia Driver’s License and Proof of Insurance Required Competencies, Abilities & Skills Ability to connect with inner-city youth; underserved youth experience preferred Mastery of communication skills including written, verbal, and presentation Willingness to be coached and eagerness to learn new information Personal relationship skills allowing employee to manage and work with wide variety of people, professionals, and students Passion and commitment to help positively change culture and graduation rates Ability to work and contribute in team environment Ability to manage variety of projects and goals along with personal and team responsibilities Software skills including: Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and email Ability to drive and transport students/staff in Elevate SAVANNAH fleet (vans, buses, minivans) and personal vehicle, if available.
