Job Description
Role Overview The Autistic Support Teaching Assistant is a vital partner in our specialized classrooms, providing the stability and encouragement neurodivergent students need to thrive. This is a rewarding, full-time, 10-month position (7 hours per day) designed for someone with a calm demeanor and a passion for helping students overcome obstacles. You will work directly with students to bridge communication gaps, manage sensory needs, and celebrate the small victories that lead to lifelong independence. Compensation & Specialized Pay Effective Starting Rate: $17.12/hr+ This rate includes a minimum base rate of $14.62/hr (commensurate with experience) plus a dedicated $2.50/hr wage differential specifically for the Autistic Support role. Core Responsibilities Instructional Coaching: Assist students with academic tasks using specialized tools like visual schedules and communication devices. Behavioral Guidance: Implement positive reinforcement strategies to help students navigate sensory challenges and emotional regulation. Social Development: Model and support appropriate social interactions during classroom activities, lunch, and recess. Data Collection: Track student progress on Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals to help the teaching team refine support strategies. Classroom Collaboration: Work alongside teachers and therapists to maintain a safe, organized, and inclusive learning environment. Physical Requirements & Capabilities This role requires being active and engaged with students throughout the day. To be successful, you must be able to: Maintain Engagement: Spend a significant portion of the day standing, walking, or working on the floor with students. Support Mobility: Assist students with physical transitions between different areas of the school building. Physical Stamina: Be prepared for a high-energy environment that may require lifting or quick movement to ensure student safety. Requirements Highly Qualified Status: Two years of post-secondary education OR a high school diploma/equivalent plus a passing score on the ParaProfessional test (may be completed after hire). Skills: Strong interpersonal communication and a service-oriented approach. Clearances: Employment is contingent upon providing current Act 34, Act 114, Act 151, and Act 168 forms prior to your start date.
