Job Description
The University of Wisconsin-Stout (UW-Stout), Wisconsin’s Polytechnic University, is seeking applications for a Director of Learning and Emerging Technology Services, Training and Communication. This position joins an ecosystem of leaders that ensure a culture of innovation, and excellence in learning technologies, along with the robust training and communications that result therein. As a direct report to the Chief Information officer, the position works with leaders across learning information technology, academic affairs (including the provost’s office, Multi-Modal Instructional Supports Unit, academic colleges and the University Library), human resources, and the university’s artificial intelligence integration technologist, to ensure the UW-Stout has and communicates the necessary technology support services to deliver its mission. Job Summary Provide leadership and direction for emerging technologies and development functions of the Learning and Information Technology department and the Learning Technology Services team; communicate related training and update information university-wide; develop and direct the implementation of university-wide technology; resolve related complex issues; and promote the optimal use of technologies and engagement programming. Key Job Responsibilities Provide strategic leadership for emerging technologies and collaborate on artificial intelligence initiatives by evaluating instructional and operational use cases, contributing to risk and opportunity review, and supporting responsible adoption in alignment with teaching, learning, and institutional effectiveness. To this end, the position interfaces with academic affairs and the university’s artificial intelligence integration technologist to identify and serve student-centered learning needs. Serve as the institutional lead for enterprise-level instructional technologies (i.e. digital learning tools), including the evaluation, selection, deployment, and continuous improvement of enterprise educational technology services and best practices; support and collaborate on artificial intelligence-related efforts in alignment with institutional direction, with attention to emerging technologies and federal accessibility requirements. Lead technology communications and outreach efforts, including publishing an IT newsletter and coordinating regular university communications related to technology initiatives, projects, policies, and updates Work across the Learning & Information Technology department to develop and maintain training materials and knowledgebase resources on supported applications, policies, campaigns, initiatives and updates Partner with the Learning and Information Technology staff, Multi-modal Instructional Supports Unit, Library, HR and other units on campus to support faculty, staff and students in their use of instructional technology Partner with the Learning & Information Technology staff, University Library, Disabilities Services Office and other units to identify, propose, and implement institutional-level tools for digital accessibility Facilitate and coordinate cross-unit initiatives, building consensus and alignment among diverse stakeholders to advance institutional technology priorities Provide leadership for the university digital learning environment, championing universal design to foster inclusive education, and accessible technology resources and services In conjunction with the Multimodal Instructional Support team, lead the design, delivery, and coordination of instructional technology training programs for faculty, staff, and departments, including customized and university-wide offerings Support university efforts to build AI literacy and readiness by collaborating with the AI Integration Technologist as well as academic, administrative, and IT partners to develop guidance, training, and best practices aligned with institutional policies, ethical standards, accessibility requirements, and data privacy expectations Direct strategic planning initiatives and establish objectives to ensure appropriate use of financial, administrative, and staffing resources in alignment with the strategic plan Serve and represent Learning and Information Technology (LIT) on campus, region and state committees as needed, co-chair the university Artificial Intelligence Innovation and Coordination Committee Assess and improve existing services.
