Job Overview: The Team Lead Machinist is responsible for providing hands-on leadership and direction to a team of machinists to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule. This role includes training and mentoring new and existing employees, supporting team members in achieving daily production objectives, and independently operating high-demand or complex CNC machinery. The Floor Lead works closely with the Machine Shop Supervisor to identify and implement best practices that support organizational KPI’s, including improved productivity, efficiency, optimizing setups, and reducing elongated cycle times. Responsibilities: Provide on-the-spot technical troubleshooting to support Setup Technicians Mentor and coach machinists on best practices and quality standards Identify skill gaps in team members and proactively recommend training paths to Supervisor. Support new machinists during onboarding to accelerate competency, learning, and drive the training process to ensure processes are communicated Investigate scrap or rework events, report root causes to Supervisor. Conduct end-of-shift Cell readiness checks for 2 nd shift to push productivity and Efficiency for identified cells that must run (tool life, finished setups, cleanliness) Provide real-time updates to Supervisor on production delays, machine problems, tooling shortages, and identified personnel issues. Document significant production events, downtime causes, and improvement opportunities to drive efficiency. Identify waste (motion, waiting, defects, over-processing, etc.) and propose improvements to leadership. Identify operational bottlenecks and focus on increasing machine uptime, changeover speed, and cell flow. Drive and maintain 6S across all areas Requirements: High school diploma/General Education Degree (GED) 5+ years of experience working in a manufacturing environment as a machinist 2+ years of experience with ERP systems Core Competencies: Excellent 6s and organizational skills. Proven ability to follow through on commitments and details. Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skill.
