Job Description
Job Title: Technical Lead / Solutions Architect Client: Illinois Tool Works Location: Remote Work Model: Hybrid (3–4 days onsite per week) Duration: Long-term contract (potential for full-time conversion) Overview We are seeking a highly skilled Technical Lead / Solutions Architect to join a growing team supporting multiple critical, highly regulated enterprise applications. This role requires a strong mix of technical expertise, leadership, and strategic decision-making , along with excellent communication skills to collaborate with stakeholders and guide development teams. Key Responsibilities Act as the primary technical leader and decision-maker across multiple applications Collaborate with stakeholders to align business needs with technical solutions Lead and mentor junior and mid-level developers Perform deep code analysis to identify improvement and modernization opportunities Define and drive application transformation strategies , including: Evaluating whether to rewrite or enhance legacy applications Estimating timelines and assessing business impact Designing approaches that minimize disruption to ongoing operations Serve as the point of contact for all development activities Support ongoing systems (~10% of role), including: Handling tickets and implementing code changes Providing backup support alongside analysts Technology Stack Current & Future Technologies: C# MVC / Web Forms .NET Framework .NET Core 6 Applications & Environment Manage and modernize 10+ homegrown legacy applications Systems support key business areas: Finance & Reporting Tax Applications Accounting Systems Project/CapEx Tracking Identity & Access Management Integrations (notably Concur & Workday ) Operate in a highly regulated environment (legal, audit, finance) No dedicated QA team — requires high ownership and precision in development Team Structure 3 Full-Time Employees: 2 Support Analysts (Senior + Junior) 1 DBA 2 Contractors (Developers) Required Qualifications 5–7+ years of software development experience (closer to 7 preferred) Strong expertise in: C#, MVC/Web Forms .NET Framework & .NET Core Proven experience in a Technical Lead or Solution Architect role (or readiness to step into one) Experience working in highly regulated environments Demonstrated ability to: Evaluate and execute application modernization strategies Make architecture-level decisions impacting business operations Strong communication and stakeholder management skills (A+ required) Preferred Qualifications Experience in finance, audit, or compliance-driven systems Background in enterprise application transformation initiatives Familiarity with identity systems and integrations (Concur, Workday)
