Why This Role is Valuable The City of Cedar Hill's culture sets us apart from any other City in the world.We live by five very important values, which also contain many parts to make a whole.The five values we live by are High Standards, Teamwork, Premier Customer Service, Family Oriented and Fun.We are seeking an individual, who has demonstrated a willing commitment to these values, holding them in high regard, to join our team as a Temporary Customer Service Representative.The purpose of this position is to serve as a substitute within Utility Services.This position may serve as a customer service representative, assisting customers over the phone and in person or provide back-office support such as reviewing data for accuracy, reporting and proactively identifying and communicating potential leaks.Other duties may include processing sewer averaging, maintaining accounts, adjusting utility bills, maintaining rate information and interfacing with other City employees and citizens.This position does not provide direction to other employees.This position fills in for Utility Services staff, as needed as well as other City departments, as requested.There is not a set number of hours or set schedule for this position.How You Add Value Provides premier customer service to citizens, internal and external customers by responding to requests in a positive, timely, effective and professional manner.Greets customers in person and over the phone to answer questions regarding their utility account; answers concerns/questions via telephone or written correspondence.Processes sewer averaging by running updates, checking reports, highlighting incorrect reports and changing information in the computer.Maintains accounts by setting up new accounts, posting deposits, transferring disconnected accounts, transferring moved accounts, generating meter tickets and ensuring information is correct for billing.Adjusts utility bills by figuring water and sewer adjustments for leaks, sewer averaging, over-reads and errors in posting.Posts payments to customer's accounts and prepares a daily report.Opens and sorts mail daily, sets up new customer records, prepares disconnects, reconnection of service and re-reads for field services.Processes NSF checks, bankruptcy, files proof of claim forms and affidavits.May compose correspondence to customers or agencies.Proactively identify and communicate potential leaks to customers.Review AMI data for accuracy and overall system performance.Familiarity with service orders and meter-related billing tasks Monitor delinquent accounts and assist with the collections process when needed.Identify billing discrepancies and resolve them promptly to prevent customer impact.Ability to interpret meter reports and troubleshoot discrepancies Support utility operations by providing billing reports, usage summaries, and account information as needed.Performs other duties, as necessary.Requires the ability to serve in an on-call/substitute role.What You Bring to the Role Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes.Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency, 30 or more college hours preferred.Billing experience in a municipal or utility environment, preferably with one to two years of hands-on billing work is preferred.Strong customer service skills for explaining bills and resolving concerns are key for this role.Experience with utility billing software (e.g., Tyler Munis, or similar) preferred.Knowledge of water usage patterns to help identify leaks or abnormal consumption preferred.Preference may be given to candidates bilingual in English/Spanish.How to Join Our Family Complete online application at Cedar Hill City Website at www.cedarhilltx.com.The City of Cedar Hill can no longer accept actual/faxed applications.ONLY ONLINE APPLICATIONS WILL BE CONSIDERED.There are computers at the Cedar Hill Library for applicants that do not have access to a computer at home.If you are having trouble with the NEOGOV Applicant tracking site, please call the NEOGOV technical support number at 855-524-5627In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, the City of Cedar Hill will make every reasonable effort to accommodate your needs.For any special requests, please call Human Resources at 972-291-5100, ext 1050.The City of Cedar Hill is an Equal Opportunity Employer and does not unlawfully discriminate on the basis of genetic information in compliance with GINA, race, sex, color, religion, national origin, veteran status, age, or disability in hiring, conditions, or termination of employment.Final applicants for employment with the City of Cedar Hill are subject to drug testing and background screening.CITY OF CEDAR HILL 285 Uptown Blvd Bldg #100 Cedar Hill, TX 75104 972-291-5100 Part-time, temporary, and seasonal positions are not offered benefits..
