BrightSide Animal Center (BrightSide) operates a thrift store and a bottles/cans recycling program to raise critical operating funds to support their a high-save animal shelter.The shared goal is to provide sheltering, placement, and prevention services to reduce animal homelessness and unnecessary euthanasia.As an independent, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, BrightSide has been helping people and animals in Central Oregon for over 30 years.The Thrift Store Cashier plays a vital role in ensuring smooth transactions and delivering a positive shopping experience to customers.They operate the cash register, handle financial transactions, assist customers, and maintain the checkout area.This is a part-time position with a weekly schedule between 15 and 20 hours.Responsibilities Greet customers warmly, answer inquiries, and assist with locating items.Accurately process purchases, returns, and exchanges using the cash register or point-of-sale (POS) system.Follow all company SOPs.Handle cash, credit card, and other forms of payment, ensuring accurate record- keeping and balance of the cash drawer.Assist with pricing items, stocking shelves, and keeping the checkout area organized and clean.Be vigilant in detecting theft and maintaining store security protocols.Be familiar with the thrift store's products, promotions, and sales.Work closely with other team members to ensure a smooth shopping experience for customers.Perform additional tasks as required, such as tidying store displays or assisting with store promotions.Requirements Ability to calculate totals, handle money, and make change accurately.Friendly, approachable, and able to assist customers effectively.Careful with processing transactions and balancing the register.Cooperative and able to work well with other staff members.Experience with a POS system or cash register is a plus.Ability to handle high volumes of customers during busy times.Other:Previous retail or cashier experience is preferred but not required.High school diploma or equivalent.Must be able to stand for long periods and handle light lifting.Flexible work hours, including weekends and holidays.Nature of Employment The Thrift Store Clothing Sorter reports to the Thrift Store & Recycling Manager.This is a part-time position that requires 15-20 hours per week and may include weekends, and holiday work.Compensation The starting hourly wage is $15.05 per hour.Benefits include store discount.Schedule Schedule includes a combination of midweek days, weekends and holidays that fall on your scheduled days.Shifts are day-time hours.Tuesday - Saturday 9am -5:30pm.Job Type:Part-time Pay:From $15.05 per hour Benefits:Employee discount Shift:Day shift Work Location:In person.
