Job Description
Title Officer (Remote Eligible)We are seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Title Officer to examine, analyze, and clear title for residential and commercial real estate transactions.This role is critical to ensuring properties are insurable and ready for closing by identifying and resolving title defects.As a Title Officer, you will operate in an advisory capacity partnering with customers, lenders, attorneys, and internal teams to investigate issues, obtain documentation, and deliver clear, accurate title commitments in accordance with underwriting standards and regulatory requirements.This position may be fully remote depending on location and business needs.Key ResponsibilitiesConduct title examinations by reviewing the chain of title for residential and commercial transactionsAnalyze public records, including mortgages, liens, judgments, easements, plats, surveys, and tax records to determine ownership and identify encumbrancesIdentify and resolve title defects, including missing, incomplete, or conflicting informationEvaluate the impact of legal proceedings such as probate, foreclosure, bankruptcy, and court actions on title insurabilityReview and approve legal documents including deeds, trusts, wills, affidavits of heirship, corporate resolutions, and entity formation documentsPrepare and finalize title commitments and policies, selecting appropriate coverage and endorsementsCommunicate with customers, attorneys, lenders, and third parties to obtain required documentation and clear title requirementsApply underwriting guidelines, technical bulletins, and internal procedures to resolve complex title issuesProvide underwriting interpretation within established authority levelsEscalate complex or high-risk issues to underwriting counsel when necessaryIssue and/or request hold harmless agreements as appropriateMay support pricing of commitments, endorsements, and policies based on established fee schedulesMay participate in client relationship management and business development activitiesQualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent35 years of title or related real estate experienceMinimum of 2 years of title examination experienceStrong understanding of title insurance principles, practices, and terminologySkills & CompetenciesAnalytical mindset with strong problem-solving abilityHigh attention to detail and accuracyExcellent written and verbal communication skillsStrong customer service orientationAbility to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environmentProficiency with title systems, public records research tools, and standard office technologyWork EnvironmentRemote-eligible role (based on business needs and location)May be part of a centralized title team or aligned with a branch/escrow operationCollaborative, deadline-driven environment requiring responsiveness and adaptabilityWhy This Role MattersThe Title Officer plays a key role in protecting property rights and ensuring smooth real estate transactions.Your ability to accurately assess risk, resolve issues, and deliver clear title directly supports successful closings and a strong customer experience.Pay Range:$26.88 - $35.82 Hourly, RemoteFirst American will consider for employment all qualified applicants, including those with arrest or conviction records, in a manner consistent with the requirements of applicable state and local laws..
