About the Role As a Tooling Cost Estimator, you will serve as a vital link between engineering specifications and production feasibility, ensuring our manufacturing bids are both competitive and technically sound. You will leverage your expertise in precision machining and 3D modeling to translate complex customer requirements into accurate project scopes and cost structures. Responsibilities Analyze intricate 3D CAD models and technical blueprints to define comprehensive project requirements. Develop detailed cost projections covering labor across CNC, design, and assembly phases alongside material procurement. Optimize production workflows by identifying the most efficient manufacturing sequences and necessary specialized outside processing. Drive bid competitiveness by sourcing and negotiating quotes for raw materials and external service providers. Collaborate cross-functionally with design and shop floor personnel to validate manufacturability and align project timelines with internal capacity. Document all quoting assumptions and facilitate project hand-offs to ensure seamless execution upon contract award. Qualifications Required Skills 3-5+ years of experience in precision machining, aerospace tooling, or fixture estimation. Advanced proficiency in blueprint interpretation and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T). Strong command of Microsoft Excel for data modeling and cost analysis. Working knowledge of aerospace quality standards and material properties. Must meet ITAR compliance requirements as a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident. Preferred Skills Practical background in hands-on tool making or CNC machining environments. Experience estimating large-scale tooling projects or complex weldments. Demonstrated ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to customer engineering and procurement teams. Familiarity with CATIA or similar CAD/CAM software for model interrogation.
