We are seeking a highly skilled Tool Maker to design, fabricate, modify, maintain, and repair precision tooling that supports aerospace manufacturing operations. This role is ideal for a mechanically and mathematically inclined professional with strong machining ability, careful attention to detail, and a commitment to exacting dimensional standards. Position Summary The Tool Maker is responsible for the design, fabrication, repair, modification, and maintenance of tooling used in CNC machining, Hot/Cold Forging, Thread Rolling, and Centerless Grinding operations. This position requires advanced understanding of tool geometry, tolerancing, materials, machining methods, and precision measurement, along with the ability to work from engineering drawings and calculations to produce high-quality tooling. Key Responsibilities Tool Design, Fabrication & Repair Design, build, repair, and modify dies, fixtures, jigs, gauges, and other precision tooling used in production operations. Interpret blueprints, part drawings, specifications, and mathematical dimensions to manufacture tooling to exact tolerances. Troubleshoot worn or damaged tooling and perform rework, sharpening, fitting, or replacement as required. Support scheduled and emergency tooling repairs to minimize downtime and maintain production readiness. Precision Machining & Measurement Operate manual and toolroom equipment such as lathes, mills, grinders, surface grinders, and related machinery to manufacture tooling components. Use micrometers, calipers, indicators, height gauges, and optical comparators to verify dimensional accuracy. Apply GD&T, shop math, geometry, and trigonometry in the layout, setup, and manufacture of tooling. Ensure tooling is produced and maintained to meet engineering specifications, fit, finish, and functional requirements. Process Support & Continuous Improvement Work closely with Engineering, Quality, and Production to develop tooling solutions for new and existing aerospace fastener products. Recommend design improvements, material changes, and process refinements to improve tool life, product quality, and manufacturing efficiency. Maintain detailed records of tooling dimensions, revisions, repairs, and usage history. Assist with root cause analysis of tooling-related issues and support continuous improvement initiatives across the plant. Quality & Compliance Ensure all tooling work complies with AS9100 standards, company procedures, and customer quality requirements. Inspect completed tooling for dimensional accuracy, workmanship, and readiness before release to production. Maintain high standards of safety, precision, craftsmanship, and housekeeping in all toolroom activities. Tool Control & Shop Support Manage tooling storage, identification, and organization to ensure tools are available, traceable, and protected from damage. Monitor tooling wear and condition and communicate anticipated repair or replacement needs to management. Support tooling inventory planning, spare component needs, and coordination with outside vendors when specialized work is required. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification or Associate degree in Tooling, Machining, Manufacturing Technology, or a related field preferred. 5+ years of experience as a Tool Maker, Toolmaker, or precision tooling specialist in a manufacturing environment. Strong knowledge of tooling fabrication, repair, and maintenance for CNC machining, forging, thread rolling, and grinding operations. Aerospace, fastener manufacturing, or other precision manufacturing experience strongly preferred. Advanced proficiency with precision measuring instruments, blueprint reading, and GD&T.
