Job ID 61560 Job Category Information Technology Full/Part Time Full-Time Regular/Temporary Regular ABOUT THIS POSITION The Information Technology Services (ITS) Infrastructure Division supports the Regional Wireless Cooperative (RWC) Mission-Critical Public Safety Network, which includes the 700 MHz P25 system and the Fire Hazard Zone VHF system. The RWC network supports more than 19,000 member radios and over 20,000 interoperability partners, including federal, tribal, and regional agencies such as the DEA, FBI, U.S. Marshals Service, Customs and Border Protection, and the Gila River Indian Community. The ITS Microwave/Transport Team provides the backhaul and transport infrastructure for the RWC network, engineered to operate with full redundancy and 99.999% uptime. Additionally, the ITS Radio Shop maintains more than 15,000 portable and mobile radios across City of Phoenix departments. The Wireless Radio Network Team is seeking a Transport Network Specialist to support and maintain a mission-critical network that provides Layer 3 Virtual Private Network services for public safety radio systems, police and fire operations, and additional municipal customers. This role involves configuring, monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintaining network infrastructure primarily built on Juniper platforms. The Transport Network Specialist works closely with the Lead Transport Network Specialist and participates in daily operations, network incident response, system upgrades, field installations, and site activations. This position requires participation in an on-call rotation which may include nights, weekends, evenings, early mornings, and holidays as needed. IDEAL CANDIDATE Strong understanding of routing and switching fundamentals. Basic working knowledge of virtual private networks (VPNs) and Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS). Ability to troubleshoot Layers 1 through 3 network issues with guidance. Interest in developing advanced network engineering skills. Ability to participate in field work and site installations. Comfortable working in a mission-critical environment. Demonstrates reliability, attention to detail and follow through. Clear verbal and written communication skills including interacting with sworn public safety personnel and professional staff. SALARY Pay Range: $84,468.80 to $118,872.00 annually. Hiring Range: $84,468.80 to $107,806.40 annually. Pay Range Explanation: Pay range is the entire compensation range for the position classification. Hiring range is an estimate of where you can receive an offer. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training, and internal equity. Internal Only: Please understand that this is pay grade 063. If selected, your salary offer will be based on the applicable promotion or demotion worksheet in accordance with the City Pay Ordinance. Promotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade increase. Demotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade decrease. Lateral transfers occur when there is no change to the last two digits of the pay grade.
