JOB Disclaimer-if the position is filled after July 1, 2026, then the job opportunity will not be in the classified service The Transportation Worker 2 Equipment Operator may report to either the Monongalia County Headquarters or the I-79, Section One Headquarters on Goshen Road in Monongalia County. This position, under general supervision, performs full-performance level skilled work in the construction and maintenance of highways. Duties include: operating motorized highway maintenance equipment such as skid steer, utility tractor, aerial bucket truck, front-end loader, tandem-axle truck, and snowplow. Making major repairs to highways, culverts, and bridge structures. Making minor mechanical repairs in the field such as changing tires, blades, or filters. Responsible for equipment maintenance including but not limited to cleaning and lubricating equipment and checking fluid levels. Flagging, erecting traffic control signs and barricades on construction and maintenance projects, shoveling materials, cleaning culverts, mowing, and brush cutting. May be exposed to hazardous working conditions and inclement weather. Performs other related duties as required.The selected applicant will be placed in a U.S. Department of Labor apprenticeship program. Progression through the apprenticeship program is dependent upon hours completed, proficiency in work, training completed, as well as maintaining and/or obtaining a class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).The WVDOT is responsible for the planning, construction, maintenance, and regulation of over 35,000 miles of state roads. This duty may necessitate employees working irregular hours, shifts, weekends, and more than 40 hours per week, occasionally without prior notice.In the area of assignment of Equipment Operator, a valid class A or class B Commercial Driver’s License is required.Pay Grade 11HTier 1 hourly rate: $17.5313 EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Drive dump, flatbed, or tandem-axle trucks.Operate power vegetation equipment and attachments.Operate highway maintenance equipment and attachments.Operate heavy vehicles/GVWR 26,001 or greater.Clean and lubricate equipment and check fluid levels.Makes minor mechanical repairs in the field such as changing tires, blades, or filters.Repair and construct various culvert types.Patch cement, pavement and bridge decks.Seal joints and cracks in paved surfaces.Clean equipment and workshop.Transport fuel to equipment.Some positions in the Transportation Worker classifications may require certification(s) in the area of assignment after employment.Travel may be required; therefore, a valid driver's license is required.In the area of assignment of Equipment Operator, a valid class A or class B Commercial Driver’s License is required. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION REQUIRED TRAINING/EDUCATION: No formal education required.REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: A valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License is required.No Substitutions for the Equipment Operator CDL requirement.
