The RN provides clinical leadership to the patient care team for the assigned shift. Responsibilities include providing performance feedback to team members and input to management regarding appraisals. The RN develops a plan that prescribes strategies to attain expected, measurable outcomes. The RN plans and evaluates care in collaboration with appropriate disciplines for assigned patients. The RN documents and reports care delivered to the healthcare team as needed. In collaboration with leadership, the RN actively pursues required knowledge and skills through orientation activities specific to the unit and reading current literature. The RN provides leadership and supervision to the healthcare team during the assigned shift. Care is implemented and supervised by the RN, ensuring it aligns with the plan of care and approved safety and infection control standards. The RN analyzes assessment data to determine actual or potential diagnosis, problems, and issues. Establishing effective working relationships with peers, physicians, and other members of the healthcare team is vital. The RN identifies and confers with appropriate resources regarding patient care decisions. The RN evaluates progress toward the attainment of goals and outcomes, reporting data to appropriate persons. The RN collects pertinent data and information relative to the patient's health or situation. Normal and abnormal findings are recognized by the RN when gathering data. Conditions of patients are assessed through direct observation, rounding, and data input from other team members. The RN coordinates bed and patient care assignments during the shift to ensure consistency in care delivery. Expected outcomes for a plan individualized to the patient or situation are identified by the RN. The RN enhances professional growth through classes related to communication, teaching, stress management, conflict resolution, and team building annually. The RN serves as a strong, positive role model for other healthcare team members. Teaching strategies are employed by the RN to promote health and a safe environment.
