American Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN PCU - Progressive Care Unit for a travel nursing job in Kearney, Nebraska. Job Description & Requirements Specialty: PCU - Progressive Care Unit Discipline: RN Start Date: 06/08/2026 Duration: 13 weeks 36 hours per week Shift: 12 hours, nights Employment Type: Travel Assignment Overview Shift: Nights, 3x12hrs Hours: 36 hrs/wk Start Date: Jun 8, 2026 Length: 13 weeks Openings: 1 Description American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience, arterial line competency, and night shift availability. Details Acute care PCU/Stepdown unit in a Level 2 Trauma facility 40-bed unit with an average daily census of 24 patients Patient population includes adults with cardiac med/surg, dialysis, cancer, vascular, sepsis, respiratory, stroke, post-stent, post-pacer placement, and renal failure diagnoses Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4-5 on both days and nights CNAs/patient care techs on unit with a 1:12 ratio Charge nurse present on each shift and carries an assignment RNs are required to titrate drips including Heparin, Nitro, Dopamine, Cardizem, Amiodarone, and insulin RNs must independently read and interpret telemetry strips High-flow oxygen equipment in use; RNs are expected to manage beyond basic troubleshooting EMR: Epic 12-hour night shifts (1830–0630) Every other weekend required Minimum of 2 holidays required within the contract period Floating required to Med/Surg or to ICU to cover PCU-acuity patients Requirements Active NE state or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses will not be accepted Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS — all must be active; pending certifications not accepted Minimum 2 years of RN experience required Competency in arterial line management required Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility; driver's license is used to verify permanent address Candidates may not be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN at any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire Driver's license required for consideration Additional Information Unit is oriented to patient experience, responsiveness, medication communication, and overall hospital environment Unit serves a diverse patient population, primarily Hispanic and Somali communities Available equipment includes overhead lifts (in approximately half of rooms), portable lifts, vein finders, and bladder scanners Scrub color: Navy Blue Unit-specific orientation consists of 1 day A pass/fail, open-book skills exam is administered on Wednesdays during orientation; a score of 90% or higher is required to pass If placed on call and called back in, RNs must be able to arrive on-site within 30 minutes Up to 7 days of RTO must be requested upfront; additional RTO will not be approved after submission Blocked scheduling is not approved unless it is weekends only; duo requests requiring shared care or the same schedule will not be accepted Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to remove them will result to contract termination Candidates who were previously employed PRN through outside staffing firms at CommonSpirit facilities will be considered American Traveler Job ID #P-704756.
