Underground Construction Laborer (Travel Required) CDL Utilities has an immediate need for a skilled and reliable Construction Laborer.We are looking for a hard-working individual capable of working extended hours and occasionally on weekends for emergencies or special situations.The work is predominantly outdoors, and the candidate must be prepared to work in different types of weather conditions.This position will be based in New York, primarily supporting local clients on Long Island.However, the role requires regular travel.The successful candidate must be willing and able to travel to North Carolina and Texas, at times for weeks at a time, to support out-of-state projects as business needs require.Our ideal candidate has experience installing underground and/or aerial telephone, cable TV, and fiber optic drops to homes and businesses.Responsibilities:Working in all phases of underground construction to install and maintain underground telecommunications or electrical cabling Hand digging using shovels and/or mechanical tools in an ergonomically safe manner Performing traffic control functions (e.g., placing traffic signals, directing traffic, etc.) under the direction of a Crew Leader Ensuring equipment and tools are cleaned and stored properly Maintaining safe working habits and conditions according to all regulations, procedures, and policies Qualifications:Must be at least 18 years of age Must have a valid driver's license Must be authorized to work in the United States Must be able to pass drug, criminal/background checks, and DMV record checks Must have experience digging trenches and working with concrete and asphalt Ability to communicate effectively with Crew Leaders, customers, employees, etc.Ability to work independently or as an active member of a team 2-3 years of experience in underground utility construction Ability and willingness to travel out of state typically 1-2 weeks at a time, however, duration may vary depending on project needs Ability and willingness to work overnight.Preferred Qualifications:Prior experience and working knowledge of underground utilities and safe excavation practices within the telecommunication industry Ability to read prints and interpret utility maps to identify the type and size of underground utilities Ability to speak and/or read both English and Spanish Leadership ability and strong communication skills Physical Requirements:Position is very active and will require the employee to stand, crouch, sit, bend, etc.Ability to work while wearing safety boots, safety glasses, and hardhat Ability to work in adverse weather and driving conditions Must be able to lift/carry 50 lbs as needed, with or without assistance CDL Utilities is an Equal Opportunity Employer and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any kind including, based on disability and protected veteran status.The Company's policy is not to discriminate against any applicant or employee based on race, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, genetic information, religion, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other basis protected by applicable federal, state, or local laws.The Company also prohibits harassment of applicants or employees based on any of these protected categories.It is also the Company's policy to comply with all applicable state and federal laws respecting consideration of unemployment status in making hiring decisions.Work Remotely No Job Type:Full-time Benefits:401(k) 401(k) matching Dental insurance Health insurance Health savings account Paid time off Vision insurance Travel:transportation and lodging covered.Daily stipend provided for meals, etc.Pay:$20.00 - $35.00 per hour Benefits:401(k) Dental insurance Flexible spending account Health insurance Health savings account Opportunities for advancement Paid time off Vision insurance Work Location:In person.
