State Classification Title: Investigator IV (1354) GENERAL DESCRIPTION Our mission at the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) is to serve, protect and advance the citizens and industries in the state with quality motor vehicle related services. We are a dynamic state agency dedicated to customer service, consumer protection and the success of motor vehicle-related industries. This position does not require a Texas Commission on Law Enforcement certificate nor is it a law enforcement position. Performs complex investigative work in support of the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles, Enforcement Division (ENF), Motor Carrier Section. Investigates and resolves motor carrier complaints and inquiries regarding business activities regulated by TxDMV. Work requires research and analysis of complex records to determine compliance with state and federal statutes. Work requires contact with high-level executives, attorneys, governmental officials and private entities. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. ESSENTIAL DUTIES Reviews and evaluates consumer complaints to determine if a violation has occurred and makes recommendations concerning action to be taken. Conducts field investigations and/or investigations of reported and suspected violations of statutes and rules, documents observations/findings. Gathers, examines and analyzes complex records necessary to complete investigations. Develops lists, contacts and/or interviews potential witnesses. Prepares investigative or inspection reports of findings and recommends corrective actions. Maintains complaint files, investigation files and reports; secures confidential information. Conducts research of state and federal statues, regulations and other issues affecting area of jurisdiction. Coordinates with regulated businesses and consumers regarding complaints. Answers inquiries and provides guidance to regulated businesses. Makes recommendations concerning administrative penalties and assists in the correction of violations. Uses negotiation/mediation skills to resolve complaints, as appropriate. Provides expert testimony in court cases. Require
