Job Description
Hartford Healthcare, a leading not-for-profit healthcare system in Connecticut, is seeking an Ultrasound Technologist to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team. In this role, you will perform high-quality diagnostic ultrasound examinations for a diverse patient population in a fast-paced clinical environment. Working closely with radiologists, physicians, nurses, and fellow technologists, you will use advanced ultrasound equipment to obtain and optimize images of abdominal, obstetric/gynecologic, vascular, and other soft-tissue structures, following established protocols and safety standards. You will verify patient identity, review clinical histories and provider orders, explain procedures in a clear and compassionate manner, and ensure patient comfort, privacy, and dignity throughout each exam. The Ultrasound Technologist will position patients safely, select appropriate technical settings, recognize normal and abnormal findings in real time, and communicate critical or unexpected results promptly to the interpreting provider. Responsibilities also include accurate documentation in the electronic medical record, appropriate labeling and archiving of images, and adherence to all regulatory, infection prevention, and quality standards. You will assist in maintaining and troubleshooting ultrasound equipment, reporting issues and coordinating with biomedical engineering as needed. As part of Hartford Healthcare’s culture of teamwork, compassion, and excellence, you will actively participate in quality improvement initiatives, protocol updates, and continuing education to stay current with evolving best practices and emerging ultrasound technologies. You will precept or support students and new staff as needed, contributing to an inclusive, collaborative environment where ideas are shared and professional growth is encouraged. This position offers the opportunity to work with cutting-edge medical technology in a system that provides primary, specialty, and urgent care services across a broad network of hospitals and care sites. The ideal candidate brings strong technical sonography skills, clinical judgment, attention to detail, and effective communication with patients, families, and the care team. A completed program in diagnostic medical sonography, relevant registry certification or eligibility, and prior clinical ultrasound experience in a hospital or outpatient setting are expected. By joining Hartford Healthcare, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality patient care and advancing our mission to improve the health and well-being of the communities we serve.
