Hybrid Details: Jacksonville, FL - Hybrid Job Summary The Utilities Technical Trainer is responsible for developing, delivering, and assessing technical training programs that support utility construction operations across either underground or overhead disciplines. This role ensures that field personnel possess the technical knowledge, practical skills, and safety awareness required to safely construct, install, maintain, and repair utility infrastructure. The trainer will specialize in either underground or overhead construction , based on experience, while supporting broader workforce development initiatives across the organization. With strong hands-on field experience, the trainer provides instruction aligned to real-world project conditions and collaborates closely with operations and field leadership to ensure training reflects current practices. Safety principles are integrated into all technical instruction, emphasizing proper planning, hazard awareness, and consistent execution. This is an individual contributor role requiring travel to support multiple project locations. Key Responsibilities Technical Training Delivery Develop and deliver classroom and field-based training programs for utility construction personnel within underground or overhead disciplines Provide instruction on interpreting construction plans, profiles, elevations, specifications, and quantities Deliver discipline-specific training, which may include: Underground: excavation methods (micro-trenching, shallow trenching, deep cut), conduit installation, vaults, handholes, backfill, compaction, and restoration Overhead: pole climbing, work positioning, ascent/descent, tool handling aloft, and operation of bucket trucks and digger derricks Teach proper equipment application, capabilities, and limitations relevant to the trainer s area of expertise Demonstrate proper inspection, use, and maintenance of tools, equipment, and (if applicable) fall protection systems Safety & Hazard Awareness Integration Integrate safety principles into all training as part of planning and execution Reinforce hazard awareness related to: Underground: excavation, trench safety, and equipment operation Overhead: working at heights, electrical hazards, and energized environments Teach safe work practices, applicable regulations, and industry standards Promote consistent adherence to approved construction methods and safety protocols Coordination and Field Alignment Coordinate with operations and project management to align training with active project scopes and sequencing Support alignment between design intent and field execution through technical instruction Incorporate project awareness concepts such as sequencing, scope understanding, and quantity tracking Adjust training content based on field conditions, project requirements, and operational needs Training Program Support & Evaluation Support development and continuous improvement of training programs across underground and overhead disciplines Deliver onboarding, refresher, and advancement training Evaluate trainee competency through hands-on and field-based assessments Provide feedback to leadership on workforce capability, gaps, and training effectiveness Recommend updates to training materials based on field feedback and evolving standards Training Records and Compliance Maintain accurate training records, rosters, evaluations, and documentation Coordinate training schedules with operations and training leadership Ensure compliance with internal training requirements and applicable regulatory standards Support audits, inspections, and training program reviews Required Skills & Qualifications Minimum of 7+ years of experience in utility construction (underground or overhead) Strong hands-on experience in at least one discipline (underground or overhead) Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications Experience installing utility infrastructure relevant to area of expertise Familiarity with municipal standards and inspection requirements Ability to instruct adult learners in classroom and field environments Strong communication, coordination, and organizational skills Basic computer skills for documentation and reporting Valid driver s license and ability to travel frequently Desired Skills & Qualifications Expe
