Minimum Requirements A Registered Nursing degree from an accredited college or university. Minimum of two (2) years of experience providing direct care in Long-Term Care (LTC) or a Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF). Minimum of one (1) year of experience in nursing management. Must have current CPR Certification prior to appointment. Candidates must be able to meet state requirements for relevant licensures or certifications and have no disciplinary action in effect against their professional license prior to appointment. It is the policy of Allegheny County that in order to receive a final offer of employment, candidates must successfully pass a background check, which includes verification of Allegheny County Real Estate Tax status, and drug/medical examinations as required for the position. The pre-employment drug screen must be completed within 48 hours of the acceptance of the conditional offer of employment. Position Summary Reporting to the Director of Nursing and the Assistant Director of Nursing, the Unit Manager plans, develops, organizes, and coordinates day-to-day functions for the unit. This position works beyond normal working hours and on weekends, holidays, when necessary. Overview Duties Supervises and directs the day-to-day functions of the Nursing Assistants, LPNS, and RNs, ensuring that staff assignments are made based on first-hand knowledge and delivered in accordance with the residents’ needs of that unit. Plans, monitors, and evaluates the delivery of resident care/activity by utilizing the shift report, the medical record, direct observation, and feedback from others in providing resident care. Provides nursing care within the scope of practice, while assuring that nursing procedures are carried out accurately and in a timely manner. Conducts the Interdisciplinary Care Plan Conference, ensuring that a comprehensive assessment and care plan is developed. Reviews resident care plans for appropriate resident goals, problems, approaches, and revisions based on nursing needs. Ensures that all employees involved in providing care to the residents are aware of the residents’ care plan and that goals and objectives are addressed. Makes rounds and collaborates with physicians to validate the accurate interpretation and processing of diagnostic and therapeutic orders. As required, prepares and administers mediations and provides direct resident care. Assures that medical supplies and equipment are always maintained on the assigned unit, to adequately meet the needs of residents, and recommends to nursing management the need for new equipment. Communicates resident and unit status to physicians and nursing leadership. Consults with the resident, their family, and their physician in planning their care, treatment, and rehabilitation. Prioritizes and completes assignments prior to the end of the shift, adapts to changes, and assists co-workers. Ensures that all required nursing documentation is completed within established timeframes. Reviews all documentation required by the RN, LPN, and Nurse Aide for accuracy and completeness, and provides direction accordingly. Monitors medication passes and treatment schedules to ensure that medications are being administered as ordered, that treatments are provided as scheduled, and storage and control of medications and supplies are maintained. Performs quality improvement audits and serves on the Quality Improvement Committee and subcommittee as assigned. Oversees and assists in the implementation of quality improvement measures. Completes performance appraisals on employees assigned to the unit; completes annual or as-needed competencies and training in accordance with required timeframes. Reviews complaints and incident reports made by the residents, completes investigations, and makes written/oral reports, according to procedure, indicating what actions are recommended to resolve the complaint. Follows through with recommendations for disciplinary actions, assuring adherence to policies, procedures, and contractual language.
