ABOUT THE POSITION: Position Title: Upper School English Teacher/Part-Time Hawai'i Preparatory Academy seeks a dedicated, experienced, and collaborative teacher to join our Upper School English Department as a part-time English teacher. The ideal candidate will bring energy, enthusiasm, and expertise to a range of English courses, including Advanced Placement English. All responsibilities at the school are expected to support HPA's mission and align with its core values of integrity, respect, pursuit of excellence, and wonder. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/TASKS: General Duties and Responsibilities Teach 1 to 3 sections of Upper School English, which may include AP-level coursework. Design and implement engaging, student-centered lessons that promote critical thinking, reading comprehension, and analytical writing. Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning styles and student needs. Maintain accurate records of student progress and provide timely feedback. Collaborate with colleagues to align curriculum and best teaching practices. Support interdisciplinary learning and encourage project-based experiences. Serve as an advisor, mentor, and role model for students. Participate in professional development opportunities and contribute to departmental and school-wide initiatives. Engage in all aspects of the residential school community, including athletic coaching, student advising, and supporting the boarding program. Obtain and maintain proper licensure for driving a school vehicle as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in English, Education, or a related field. Minimum of three years of classroom teaching experience, including Advanced Placement English. Strong content knowledge and passion for teaching English Language Arts. Ability to create an inclusive, engaging, and supportive classroom environment. Proficiency in integrating technology into instruction. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Commitment to continuous learning and professional growth. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree in English, Education, or a related field. Experience designing and modifying curriculum to meet diverse learning needs. Experience with educational apps and software to support learning. Interest in coaching or leading extracurricular activities. Ability to be trained to drive a CDL school bus. Physical Demands Be able to sit at a desk and work on a computer for extended periods. Be able to lift up to 30 pounds as needed. Employment Term: 10 Months Academic Year: 2026-2027 Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, between 7:30 AM and 4:00 PM (schedule may vary depending) Faculty Salary Range: $52,500 - $98,454, prorated based on FTE. Compensation is commensurate with qualifications. Hawai'i Preparatory Academy offers a comprehensive total compensation package, including competitive pay and benefits. The pay rate reflects the range of pay for faculty and is dependent upon educational attainment and years of relevant experience.
