Job Title: UPS Field Service Engineer Location: Fremont, CA Job Type: Full-Time (Field-Based) Position Overview The UPS Field Service Engineer applies diversified knowledge of the power electronics industry to perform start-up, testing, troubleshooting, operation, and maintenance of UPS and other critical power equipment. This role is home-based and requires travel to customer sites within the assigned regional coverage area to provide technical support and service. Key Responsibilities Commission, maintain, and provide emergency support for power electronics equipment at customer sites. Perform commissioning-focused design reviews and prepare commissioning test procedures and reports. Coordinate and oversee on-site testing and system start-up activities. Conduct preventive maintenance, emergency repairs, equipment start-up, and field modifications. Troubleshoot equipment issues in coordination with the technical support team. Attend periodic training on OEM units, testing equipment, and standard operating procedures (SOPs). Participate in the development of Methods of Procedures (MOPs). Provide recommendations to customers to improve system performance and reliability. Maintain accurate and timely Field Service Reports. Ensure high-quality customer service and professional communication with clients. Work independently while consulting supervisors regarding complex technical issues. Be available to work nights, weekends, and emergency service calls when required. Qualifications 3-5+ years of experience in the critical power or power electronics industry. Ability to troubleshoot UPS and related equipment down to the component level. Experience working with equipment such as UPS systems, batteries, PDUs, and STS units. Experience with OEM equipment such as Liebert / Emerson / Vertiv, APC / MGE / Schneider, or Eaton / Powerware is required. Strong knowledge of equipment manufacturer specifications. Proficiency in using hand tools and electronic test equipment. Strong verbal and written communication skills with excellent customer service abilities. Ability to work independently and demonstrate strong problem-solving skills. Basic knowledge of computer hardware and software applications. Ability to perform physical tasks including bending and lifting up to 100 lbs. when required. Willingness to travel and work flexible hours including nights and weekends. Education Technical degree from a two-year accredited technical school in an engineering or technical field OR 3-5 years of hands-on technician experience in a related power electronics or critical power field. Preferred Qualifications Previous third-party UPS service experience. OEM factory training on UPS systems. Military technical training or experience.
