Job Description
The Vacuum Driver, under the direction of the Operations Manager, works locally and operates specialized vacuum trucks to collect and transport various types of liquid and solid waste, including industrial by-products, sewage, and other materials. This role requires adherence to safety protocols, equipment maintenance, and effective communication with clients and team members. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Safely operate vacuum trucks and related equipment. Ensure vehicle is in good working condition and perform routine checks and maintenance. Follow all traffic and safety regulations. Drive to job sites to collect liquid and solid waste materials. Operate vacuum equipment to remove waste from designated areas. Ensure proper disposal or transport of collected materials to designated locations. Perform daily inspections of the truck and vacuum equipment. Report any mechanical issues or needed repairs to the supervisor. Clean and maintain equipment to ensure it is in good working order. Communicate professionally with clients and address any questions or concerns. Follow client instructions and ensure that services are completed to their satisfaction. Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines for waste handling and vehicle operation. Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to waste management. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required. Maintain accurate records of waste collected, vehicle usage, and maintenance. Complete necessary paperwork and reports as required. Work effectively with other team members and supervisors. Assist with training or guiding less experienced drivers if needed. Other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS: Valid Class-A or Class- B Drivers License (CDL) with Tanker Endorsement (State of Operation) High school diploma or GED and at least 1 year of Class A tanker driving experience Willingness and ability to work overnight shifts Clean driving record (no more than 2 moving violations in 3 years, 1 at-fault accident in 5 years) Ability to pass a background check and drug screening Must physically qualify and obtain a Medical Examiners Certificate Physical capability to lift 50+ pounds, bend, squat, and work in various weather conditions Strong communication and customer service skills Physical Requirements Ability to lift and carry heavy objects, such as hoses, equipment, and waste materials. This often requires lifting weights of up to 50 pounds or more. Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity are needed to operate controls, connect and disconnect hoses, and handle various tools and equipment. Stamina to endure long hours on the job, which may include driving for extended periods and performing physically demanding tasks. Strength to handle the physical demands of the job, including moving and positioning equipment, as well as the endurance to work in various environmental conditions. Ability to bend, twist, and squat to access equipment and perform tasks in various positions and environments. This might include working in confined spaces or on uneven terrain. Coordination to manage the operation of the trucks vacuum system while performing tasks like guiding hoses and ensuring proper waste collection. Good balance is necessary when working around or on top of the truck, especially when handling equipment or accessing high points. Capability to work in varying weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, or wet environments, and maintain performance under these conditions. Good vision and hearing to operate the truck safely, detect equipment malfunctions, and follow safety protocols. Ability to climb into and out of the trucks cab and equipment areas as necessary.
