05-Non-Barg/Non-Instructional Position Vehicle Technician, Transp Facility STS - STUDENT TRANSPORTATION SERVICES Location Daytona, FL Category Skilled Crafts Classification 05-Non-Barg/Non-Instructional Posting Number D3610175 Date Posted 05/08/2026 Closing Date 05/31/2026 Job Description POSITION GOAL To provide vehicle maintenance inspection and repair to assure safety and compliance of Volusia School Board operated vehicles PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES 1.*Repair and maintain all district owned vehicles and equipment by performing detailed safety and technical inspections of vehicles todetect mechanical, safety, or specification deficiencies. 2.*Represent Volusia County School Board (VCSB) and the department with a positive and professional service-oriented demeanor. 3.*Assure the safety of all students on Volusia County School buses and employees of Volusia County Schools (VCS) using School Boardvehicles. 4.*Abide by all safety and security procedures. 5.*Report damage to Volusia County Schools (VCS) equipment and vehicles. 6.*Perform service calls on necessary equipment and vehicle repairs on the road when required. 7.*Maintain a clean, orderly work environment. 8.*Maintain all tools and equipment in a safe and orderly manner. 9.*Perform school bus inspections as mandated by Florida Department of Education guidelines FAC 6A-3.0171. 10.*Perform job responsibilities with sustained focus and attention to detail for extended periods of time. 11.*Perform other incidental tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position. 12.*Use equipment properly to eliminate or reduce exposure to fumes, noxious odors, mists, gases, and poor ventilation that affect therespiratory system, eyes, or skin. 13.*Utilize electric, metal inert gas (MIG), tungsten inert gas (TIG) and oxygen/acetylene welding equipment, as necessary. 14.*Maintain service trucks in a clean, orderly fashion and maintain the required level of stock for that vehicle. 15.*Properly accounts for departmental resources and validate correct materials issued. 16.*Attend training as directed and maintain skill level to keep current with skills and changing technology of diagnosing computerizedvehicle systems and the manufacturer’s requirements. 17.*Report any dangerous or hazardous situations related to equipment or vehicles to supervisory staff. 18.*Perform routine and emergency repairs as assigned. 19.*Perform various duties on a ladder, scaffold, or safety stairs. 20.*Accurately record parts, labor involved, and repair description to repair orders. 21.*Wear provided departmental uniform. 22.*Communicate verbally and in writing as assigned. 23.*Work as part of a team by establishing and maintaining working relationships that foster efficiency and productivity and promotecooperation with administrators, fellow employees, faculty, and the public. 24.*Work hours and locations will change as the need arises. Perform all duties according to scheduled hours and locations as assigned. 25.*Respond during times of all types of disasters/ emergencies including evenings and weekends. 26.*Attend and/ or conduct cross-training sessions with others in the department. 27.*Abide by safety rules/ standards when using tools and equipment, which includes wearing required safety equipment and compliancewith Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) requirements. 28.*Comply with environmental regulations. 29.Perform other related duties as assigned by the Shop Manager, Student Transportation Services. Denotes essential job function/ADA Position Summary School/Site: Deland Hours: 8 Months: 12 Required Qualifications/Certifications REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS High School diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent and additional mechanical training preferred Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class “B” or above with passenger and school bus endorsement must beobtained within 6 months Thorough knowledge of automobile, medium duty, and heavy equipment mechanics Valid ASE certification in Medium/Heavy Duty Truck Repair, School Bus Repair, and/or Automotive Repair preferred Must be available for scheduled shift work Must be able to attend and complete various training sessions Must be able to operate school board vehicles, in accordance with operational procedures and School Board Policy505 and maintain these requirements Obtain Florida Department of Education School Bus Inspector Certification within one (1) year REQUIRED SKILLS Ability to interp
