Job Description
Job Summary The Vice President of Transportation will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations for all inbound and outbound transportation. In addition, this role will be responsible for all purchases of company transportation equipment including tractors, trailers, route servicing equipment, third party and company servicing of company transportation equipment, and continuous improvement to the uptime and serviceability of the transportation equipment. The role will collaborate with senior leadership to meet the company's objectives in addition to having a passion for success and a proven record of successful strategic planning and implementation with a focus on operational excellence. This position is a new position for the company and currently based in the Birmingham Metro area in Alabama. Essential Duties/Responsibilities Nothing in this job description restricts management's right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job at any time. Lead all pricing negotiations and contract management efforts for the purchase, lease, rental, repair, and use for all company vehicles. Provide analysis and strategic direction in relation to all transportations data including net internal freight rates include total cost of ownership. cost reduction efforts, uptime, or mean time between failure estimates. Create transportation capacity strategies and develop contingency plans to cost-effectively support varying levels of company sales and changes to supply/demand patterns. Establish and utilize Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) that drive costs and service needs. Analyze and assess industry and market dynamics on a regular basis to assess transportation costs and service trends. Build relationships and trust with cross functional partners. Ensure adherence to all transportation related governmental policies. Advise senior leadership on all aspects of transportation and logistics. Participate in the hiring and training of new team members. Coordinate with various teams and stakeholders as required. Maintain efficient, safe, and cost-effective vehicle fleet. Evaluate subordinates, providing constructive feedback. Contribute to the maximization of efficiency and productivity. All other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications 5+ years’ considerable experience in the industry; leadership or management experience. 5+ years of supervisory experience in a business-to-business service or fleet intense operation. Motivated initiative-taker that can work well with all levels of an organization. Capacity planning for workforce and deliverables to support sales and customer expectations. Expert knowledge of logistics with a sense of urgency critical to on-time service. Effective communication skills with the ability to build, lead a team, provide direction to senior management. Possess negotiating, strategic, and tactical transportation, planning, problem analysis, and creativity skills. Knowledge in all MS suite applications with strong Excel skills. Time management skills, highly motivated in team and business success always. Experience in successfully implementing new and complex solutions for Transportation and Logistics. Preferred Qualifications High School diploma or GED. Some trade school or college courses preferred in general management, logistics, or trades. A college degree would be a plus but not required. Clear understanding of Rendering, sanitation, wholesale delivery, or other agricultural industry. Experience with Excel, Word, and other general office programs. Highly organized with attention to detail. Fiscal management experience. Have the experience of translating policies into daily routine operations. Self-assured, confident, and goal oriented.
