Job Description
Description The American Diabetes Association (ADA) seeks an individual for the position of Vice President of Regulatory & Policy within the Government Affairs & Advocacy division. This position is responsible for setting the ADA’s direction, strategy, and communication with regulatory agencies, for researching and translating ADA’s Standards of Care and other clinical guidelines into relevant positions and regulatory actions. The position will be the main point of contact with regulatory agencies and as such will be responsible for creating and maintaining relationships with the appropriate entities. The position will also be responsible for researching and developing policy recommendations for execution of state and federal legislative and regulatory strategies in alignment with ADA goals and Standards of Care. Reporting to the Chief Advocacy Officer, this position requires a strong knowledge of and experience working with regulatory agencies, as well as strong writing, analytic and research skills. Previous authorships of manuscripts, reports, public comment letters, etc., preferred, and the ability to collaborate and lead internal and external partners. Candidates for this position must have experience in relevant regulatory and policy areas and be able to work independently, managing multiple priority projects. This position will oversee personnel including but not limited to, a senior director of policy, and a policy fellow. Responsibilities Key functions of the position include: Working collaboratively with other ADA staff and partner organizations in the development of long-term policy priorities and strategy to further the mission of the American Diabetes Association Leading efforts to develop policies as necessary and development of ADA draft annual policy agenda Maintaining a strong working knowledge of policies impacting people with diabetes, including but not limited to those that are coverage and payment policy-related, at the state, federal, and regulatory levels Designing and implementing strategies of engagement with regulatory entities in alignment with ADA’s goals and priorities Working in collaboration with ADA’s scientific and health division to draft and submit public comments to regulators on relevant rules and proposals Overseeing personnel developing policy and materials to support the federal and state government affairs teams Leading and participating in coalitions and representing ADA at public facing events including speaking engagements Initiating, planning, and executing events in support of policy and regulatory priorities Qualifications Bachelor’s degree required (master’s or other advanced degree preferred). Minimum of 10 years’ experience in the regulatory or public policy arena with emphasis on (either with non-profit, state or federal legislative office or regulatory agency). A genuine dedication and personal commitment to preventing and curing diabetes and improving the lives of all people affected by diabetes. Strong writing, research and analytic skills. Demonstrated ability to effectively multitask, make informed decisions, use independent judgment, establish priorities and provide clarity to senior leaders. Ability to supervise personnel. Frequent travel is required. Remote working environment.
