Job Description
Server / Wine Guide Cork Wine Bar and Market Washington, DC | [Full-time / Part-time] | Hourly + Tips About Us Cork Wine Bar and Market is an award winning neighborhood wine destination built around small producers, thoughtful food, and genuine hospitality. We offer 50+ wines by the glass and over 250 bottles from around the world, with a focus on making wine approachable without dumbing it down. Our team helps guests explore through flights, honest conversation, and pairing-driven service. In addition to our main dining room, we operate a Tasting Bar, retail market, patio dining, and a growing calendar of wine classes and private events. The Role This is not a “just run food and drinks” serving job. Our servers are educators, guides, and salespeople who help guests navigate wine with confidence—whether it’s their first glass or their hundredth. What You’ll Do Lead guests through the wine list with clarity, personality, and confidence Translate wine into approachable, real language (not scripted or pretentious) Drive sales through thoughtful recommendations and pairings Serve food and wine with precision and attention to detail Actively learn our rotating list of producers, regions, and styles Support tastings, classes, and private events Contribute to a team-first, service-focused environment What We’re Looking For At least 3 years of serving experience (wine-focused environment strongly preferred) Genuine interest in wine (you read about it, taste intentionally, or want to) Ability to talk to guests like humans—not recite memorized wine jargon Strong sales instincts without being pushy Comfort in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment Availability for evenings and weekends This Role Is a Great Fit If You: Get excited about trying new wines and talking about them Enjoy helping guests discover something they wouldn’t order on their own Care about small producers, regions, and how wine connects to food Want to grow your knowledge in a real-world, hands-on environment This Role Is Not a Fit If You: Are looking for a temporary or “in-between” job Prefer minimal guest interaction or transactional service Have little interest in learning about wine beyond the basics Why Work With Us Ongoing wine education and structured tastings Access to a deep, constantly changing wine list Opportunities to be involved in events and classes A neighborhood spot with a serious food and wine program Team culture that values curiosity, professionalism, and consistency How to Apply Please submit your application, resume and a short note (2–3 sentences) telling us: Something about your wine experience Why you’re interested in working in a wine-focused environment Applications without this note will be considered first Job Type: Part-time Pay: $28.00 - $35.00 per hour Benefits Employee discount Flexible schedule Health insurance Paid sick time Education: Bachelor's (Preferred) Experience: Serving: 3 years (Preferred) Hospitality: 4 years (Preferred) Wine knowledge: 3 years (Preferred) Restaurant: 3 years (Preferred) Location: Washington, DC 20009 (Required) Shift availability: Night Shift (Required) Ability to Commute: Washington, DC 20009 (Required) Work Location: In person
