Job Description
About SDCA At the San Diego Climbing Academy, we believe climbing is more than a sport. It’s a medium for building character, community, and confidence. Our Foundations Program works with young climbers ages 6–12, using the climbing wall as a tool for embodied learning. We're a tight-knit community rooted in authenticity, and everything we do is guided by a deep care for each child's growth as a whole person. The Role We're looking for a Foundations Coach to join our youth program late summer or early fall. This isn't primarily a technical climbing position — it's a people position. We're looking for someone who genuinely loves working with kids, understands how children grow and learn, and can bring energy, warmth, and intentionality to every session. If you've worked in a school, aftercare program, summer camp, or any youth-facing environment and you light up around kids — we want to hear from you. Climbing experience is a plus, but coachability and a passion for youth development matter far more to us. What You'll Do Coach youth climbing sessions for children ages 6–12 in a safe, supportive, and fun environment Build genuine relationships with kids and help foster a sense of community within the program Guide young athletes through challenges on the wall Collaborate with our coaching team to deliver a consistent, values-driven program experience Help create a space where every child feels seen, welcomed, and capable What We're Looking For Required: Experience working with children (school, camp, tutoring, aftercare, youth sports, recreation — any relevant background) Genuine enthusiasm for working with kids ages 6–12 Strong communication and relationship-building skills Reliable, punctual, and a collaborative team player Ability to pass a background check Preferred (but not required): Some climbing experience or willingness to learn Background in education, child development, recreation, or a related field Why SDCA Be part of a community-driven program that genuinely cares about its coaches and its kids Work in a creative, physical, and inspiring environment Grow your skills in youth coaching and sport-based development Flexible schedule for time off — being able to go on trips is big for us. Join a team that values who you are, not just your resume -- Please include a cover letter -- Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour Benefits Flexible schedule Gym membership Paid time off Paid training Work Location: In person
